1 Cameo In Space Jam: A New Legacy Has The Internet Going Nuts

If you’re a fan of the Looney Tunes, then Space Jam: A New Legacy isn’t going to much for you, given that the roster of iconic cartoon characters are forced to play second fiddle to the CGI spectacle and cavalcade of cross-promotion that dominates almost every frame of a sequel that’s been 25 years in the making.

However, if you’re an HBO Max subscriber or a WarnerMedia shareholder, then chances are you’ll be pleased to know that nobody will be able to forget which studio was responsible for this weekend’s blockbuster. It becomes nauseating very quickly at how blatantly A New Legacy has been designed as an ad for WB’s roster of properties, and it paints a potentially terrifying picture of a future where big budget movies are engineered to sell audiences on even more content, rather than telling an actual story people can invest in.

Of course, it’s not all doom and gloom, with the second Space Jam offering a few highlights and surprise cameos that come out of nowhere. As you can see from the reactions below, one pair of unexpected guests in particular have captured the imagination of the internet, setting social media ablaze.

At least the irreverent multiversal adventures of Rick and Morty sort of make sense within the context of Space Jam: A New Legacy, which is largely predicated on LeBron James and Bugs Bunny visiting a number of different franchises in order to gather the rest of the Tune Squad and whip them into shape for a basketball game with the fate of both the real world and the ServerVerse at stake, even if the duo’s appearance was all too brief.

A Forgotten Shia LaBeouf Movie Is Blowing Up On Streaming

After a minor resurgence that saw him gain widespread acclaim for his performances in Honey Boy, The Peanut Butter Falcon and Pieces of a Woman, Shia LaBeouf’s career hit the skids again when he was hit with a series of troubling accusations by a former girlfriend, with the actor now on an extended sabbatical from acting and seeking treatment for his well-documented personal issues.

For a while, it looked as though LaBeouf was on course to establish himself as one of his generation’s finest talents, a moniker several of his former co-stars would agree with, but a succession of highly publicized incidents have been the main talking points surrounding the 35 year-old star for the last few years, as opposed to his on-camera work.

A decade ago, he was viewed as Hollywood’s next big thing having been personally endorsed by Steven Spielberg before starring in a string of box office successes including I, Robot, Constantine, Michael Bay’s first three Transformers blockbusters, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Eagle Eye and Disturbia, before turning his back on commercial filmmaking altogether.

Disturbia

However, that hasn’t stopped the latter of those titles from finding new life on HBO Max, with D.J. Caruso’s home invasion thriller currently one of the ten most-watched titles on the platform. A court may have decreed otherwise following a lawsuit, but it’s hardly a secret that Disturbia is heavily indebted to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Rear Window, lifting almost the entire plot directly from the 1954 mystery, albeit with a modern spin.

Disturbia was a big hit at the time, hauling in $118 million at the box office on a $20 million budget, and fourteen years later it’s proving to be a surprise hit on WarnerMedia’s streaming service.

Karen Gillan’s New Movie Is The #1 Film On Netflix Today

The biggest and buzziest Netflix originals are always destined to crash straight into the number one spot on the platform’s most-watched list, so it’s with an air of inevitability that R-rated actioner Gunpowder Milkshake accomplished the feat less than 48 hours after being added to the platform on Wednesday.

Of course, the movie’s reign may be short-lived when you consider that both installments of the Fear Street trilogy are still nestled comfortably in second and third positions to show incredible staying power, so it’s more than likely that Part Three: 1666 will have dislodged the high concept tale of underworld assassins by the time today is over and done with.

In an unusual turn of events from a broad, violent crowd-pleaser, critics appear to have been enjoying Gunpowder Milkshake more than audiences. The Rotten Tomatoes consensus places the film at a decent 66%, but audiences have ranked it at a lower 52%, even though it’s been generating plenty of positive chatter on social media, which has evidently translated into Netflix viewership. Clearly the numbers don’t lie, though, and a huge volume of subscribers have been rushing to check it out as soon as possible to find out what all the fuss is about.

Either way, co-writer and director Navot Papushado is more than open to the idea of sequels, even if it hasn’t been officially placed into active development as had been teased by production company StudioCanal last week. A sugar rush of stylish action, needle drops and distinguished character actors sinking their teeth into B-tier genre cinema, Gunpowder Milkshake feels as though it was precision engineered to find long lasting life as a cult favorite, and it’s already gotten off to a strong start by dominating the Netflix Top 10.

Kang The Conqueror Star Teases His MCU Future

Those closely following the Marvel Cinematic Universe would have been more than aware that Jonathan Majors had been cast as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but few could have predicted the seismic impact he’d make right off the bat in his very first appearance as the special guest of Loki’s Season 1 finale.

There were a lot of fan theories making the rounds that Kang would be revealed as the mastermind behind the Time Variance Authority, but the fact Majors played such a substantial role in the sixth and final episode was still a shock when the MCU is typically about the long game, yet we were given the next Thanos-level threat in all of his malevolent glory.

In a twist on the Infinity Saga’s big bad formula, it looks as though the MCU’s roster of heroes will have to deal with a number of Kang variants causing chaos all across the multiverse, meaning that Majors will have plenty of opportunities to spin the comic book icon in a number of different ways. In a new interview, the 31 year-old teased what’s coming next for Kang, but he was inevitably coy when it came to specifics.

The things that come out that aren’t scripted only come out because the script is the way it is, and the world is what it is. A lot of it was through collaboration with Tom, Sophia, Kate, and Kevin Wright, the producer. They really let me run. And that’s the best thing you can hope for. You take it a day at a time. That’s all I would say about that. You take it a day at a time and clean your plate and see what tomorrow brings. See what the next story is, and then take it from there.”

The presence of Kang already indicated that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania would be a much more pivotal story in the grand scheme of the MCU than the tiny Avenger’s previous two solo outings, and may yet pay off the belief that the TVA was housed in the Quantum Realm, which makes more sense than ever after the events of Loki Season 1’s closing chapter. Majors has long since been named as one of the industry’s brightest young talents, and he’ll be getting a lot of chances to prove it in the world’s biggest franchise.

Bruce Willis’ New Movie Now On Netflix

Bruce Willis and sci-fi have combined to deliver several great movies over the decades including 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, Armageddon and Looper, but we’re obviously not going to get anything up to those sort of standards during the actor’s continued drive to star in as many VOD genre films as humanly possible.

If you thought Nicolas Cage was prolific, he ain’t got sh*t on Bruce Willis. When new Netflix debutant Cosmic Sin initially arrived on digital in March of this year, it was his second sci-fi effort in the space of three months following December 2020’s Breach. It also marked his thirteenth credit since the beginning of 2018, and just the first of six movies he’s got coming out before this year is over.

If that still wasn’t enough, the 66 year-old has another seven projects in various stages of production and development, which are all expected to land before the 2022. Quantity over quality is very much the order of the day for the Die Hard icon’s career, as evidenced by Cosmic Sin holding a dismal 3% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, terrible science fiction has always tended to play inexplicably well with Netflix’s army of subscribers, so don’t discount the turgid slice of low budget spectacle posting a strong showing on the platform. For what it’s worth, Willis plays a disgraced general 500 years in the future, who leads a mission to invade an alien planet before the natives have the opportunity to strike first.

Cosmic Sin is exactly the sort of movie you think it is based on a cursory glance at the plot, cast or trailers, so you no doubt already know if it’ll be added to your watch-list later on today.

5 Robert Pattinson Movies Just Hit Netflix

Robert Pattinson is an acclaimed actor that’s demonstrated impressive range and versatility in a number of independent projects over the last decade, and recently signed a huge first-look deal with Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Television and HBO Max to develop and produce content for the big and small screens, so he’s clearly a name with a lot of value in the industry.

On top of that, he also happens to be the latest big screen iteration of Batman, with his debut under the cape and cowl finally hitting theaters in March of next year. Despite all of this, some folks still can’t look past his history as one of the leads of The Twilight Saga, the pop culture behemoth that generated a state of frenzied mania among its staunchest supporters.

Twilight

That’s understandable to a certain extent when the movies are pretty terrible, with none of the five installments managing to reach even 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. Of course, that doesn’t mean a damn thing when audiences are willing to open their wallets, which they did to the tune of over $3.3 billion, making Twilight the most successful brand of the YA literary boom that wasn’t named Harry Potter.

The Twihards were mobilized once again last year when author Stephenie Meyer released new book Midnight Sun, and we now face the terrifying prospect of the franchise dominating the Netflix Top 10 most-watched list. As of yesterday Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and both parts of Breaking Dawn are now streaming on the world’s biggest platform, and the warm glow of nostalgia could encourage hibernating sparkly vampire enthusiasts the world over to reignite their fandom by bingeing the whole lot.

Sylvie Will Reportedly Return In Multiple MCU Projects Outside Of Loki

Fans have become so engaged and invested in everything that unfolds across the Marvel Cinematic Universe that it’s fascinating to watch opinion change on a dime. Following the Season 1 finale of Disney Plus series Loki, Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie has become the latest to find herself in the online firing line following her actions.

The variant became an instant favorite after making her franchise debut, with the actress’ performance being singled out for constant praise as one of the show’s recurring high points. However, now that it’s been revealed she’s the one responsible for plunging the multiverse into chaos after stabbing He Who Remains through the heart, Sylvie is facing the sort of backlash from MCU enthusiasts that Star-Lord received when he too let the emotions get the better of him in Avengers: Infinity War, just as the gauntlet was about to be snatched from Thanos’ grasp.

Season 2 was confirmed during the credits of Loki‘s final episode, but we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us that Anthony Mackie was getting his own movie long before Captain America 4 was announced – that Sylvie is set to become a regular fixture throughout the shared mythology as the multiversal fallout continues.

While that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that she was the one who caused it all and no doubt has plenty of making up to do as the Sacred Timeline splinters in limitless directions, it would at least give Sylvie plenty of opportunity to get the fans back on side, as well as potentially setting up the next stage of her character arc for whenever Season 2 of Loki eventually premieres on streaming.

Batman ’89 Comic Book Finally Turns Billy Dee Williams Into Two-Face

It’s long since become a piece of Hollywood legend that Billy Dee Williams only agreed to play Harvey Dent in Tim Burton’s Batman because he wanted to sink his teeth into the role of Two-Face in a future sequel. That was initially the plan, with the Gotham City District Attorney set to venture towards the dark side following an accident that left him permanently disfigured, but it wasn’t to be.

Williams only signed a one-picture deal, and was left out of Batman Returns entirely after Burton decided that he wanted to differentiate his sequel as much as possible from the first installment, which is why only a handful of principal characters from the opener were brought back.

If that wasn’t enough of a kick in the teeth, once Joel Schumacher took over behind the camera for Batman Forever, he dropped Williams in favor of Tommy Lee Jones. Star Wars‘ Lando Calrissian has voiced his disappointment on countless occasions in the decades since, but he wasn’t paid off to give up the role as had been widely rumored.

That being said, the new Batman ’89 comic book run from DC that takes place in the same universe as Burton’s duology has finally given the people what they want and turned Williams’ Dent into his nefarious alter ego, which you can see below.

The first issue arrives on August 10th, ironically at the same time Michael Keaton is suiting back up as the Dark Knight for the first time in 30 years as part of multiversal DCEU blockbuster The Flash, with Batman ’89 taking place directly after the events of Returns, and Michelle Pfeiffer’s icon version of Catwoman has also been confirmed for an appearance.

Black Widow Dropped Tony Stark Cameo To Show Natasha Didn’t Need Any Help From The Boys

Avengers: Endgame‘s A-Force moment was a very notable example of how not to treat women in superhero movies. While plenty of fans loved seeing the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s roster of female heroes sharing the same frame, it felt unnecessarily forced in, not to mention hugely coincidental that they all ended up being in the exact same place at the exact same time.

Even ignoring the backlash from certain sections towards Captain Marvel, that movie along with Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey and Black Widow, all delivered solid superhero blockbusters that just so happened to feature a female protagonist. It was a deliberate decision on Widow director Cate Shortland’s part to leave out any notable cameo appearances from the MCU’s marquee male Avengers, as she explained in a recent interview detailing why plans for a Tony Stark cameo were ultimately abandoned.

“Initially, there was discussions about everything, about all of the different characters. What we decided was, and I think Kevin was really great, he said, ‘She doesn’t need the boys’. We didn’t want it to feel like she needs the support. We want her to stand alone. And she does.”

It’s largely the same reasoning as to why Benedict Cumberbatch’s WandaVision guest spot were nixed during the writing process, with Kevin Feige deciding that Wanda Maximoff didn’t need any help or assistance when it came to figuring out or harnessing the true extent of her capabilities, and we’ll be seeing them team up or face off in just a few months when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives anyway.

Scarlett Johansson is a proven star with a track record of critical and commercial success both inside and outside of the action genre, so she was more than qualified to get the job done on her own, especially when Black Widow was already a decade in the making and looking to send one of the MCU’s longest-tenured fan favorites out in the best possible fashion.
