Black Widow Director Reveals Alternate Version Of Post-Credits Scene

In the grand scheme of things, Black Widow doesn’t have the most exciting post-credits scene in Marvel Cinematic Universe history, and that’s especially true for audiences who haven’t been keeping up to date with the Disney Plus shows.

For those blissfully unaware of what’s transpired across WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, there’s no explanation as to who Julia-Louis Dreyfus’ Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is, or how she could possibly be connected to Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. Not only that, but if you didn’t know Jeremy Renner was getting his own streaming series later this year that features Pugh in a supporting role, then you could be left more confused than excited.

Obviously, Kevin Feige admitted a long time ago that you’ll need a Disney Plus subscription to remain up to date with the latest happenings in the MCU, but that doesn’t mean everyone who heads to the theater to see the movies is necessarily obligated to stump up that monthly fee. In a new interview, Black Widow director Cate Shortland admitted that the post-credits stinger almost ended on a blatant fan-baiting note where Yelena would hear a response to her unanswered whistle, but she ultimately decided against it.

“I think we even… No, we never put it in. But we talked about it.”

That would have probably been a step too far, teasing fans with the possibility of a Scarlett Johansson return when the actress has called Black Widow her fond farewell several times over. As it stands, it already set Yelena up as being in the Contessa’s employ, a possible Thunderbolt and a major adversary for Clint Barton, so it still managed to accomplish plenty in the space of a minute or two without making promises it might not be able to keep.

David Harbour Says There’s So Much Marvel Can Do With Red Guardian

Thanks largely to the success of Stranger Things, David Harbour is a bigger star now than he’s ever been at any point in a career that dates back over 20 years. Up until Netflix’s nostalgia-fueled series became a global phenomenon, the actor was one of those familiar faces that showed up in countless projects in minor roles, but he’s now added the world’s biggest franchise to his arsenal following his recent turn as Black Widow‘s Red Guardian.

No stranger to the comic book or superhero genres having headlined the disastrous Hellboy reboot, dropped by David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and lent support in Seth Rogen’s forgotten The Green Hornet, Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov is largely a comedic presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s feature length Phase Four kickoff, but there are hints of a hugely interesting backstory that don’t get explored anywhere near enough.

A loyal servant to his country that was also Russia’s only survivor of the super soldier experiments, Alexei found himself sentenced to 25 years in prison for his troubles. Opposite number Steve Rogers was defrosted to save the world on multiple occasions, becoming a national hero and worldwide celebrity in the process as Captain America took the plaudits, all while Red Guardian arm wrestled convicts for fun.

In a new interview, Harbour revealed his excitement at the sheer number of storytelling possibilities presented by Red Guardian’s MCU debut, with the timeline on either side of Black Widow ripe for further adventures starring the bearded behemoth.

They don’t let you say these things. I would love for there to be more Red Guardian, and I would love for you guys to love for there to be more Red Guardian because that always helps the cause. I love the character, there’s so many things you could do with him. There’s this gap of 25 years where we don’t know who was he, what is his version of events as opposed to the actual version of events?

What happens to him after this movie, and why isn’t he fighting Thanos? Where is he in that time, what happens then? And then post that, when Natasha dies, what happens then? It’s very interesting to me and I hope that there is interest on other levels, and maybe we’ll see some more.”

If Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova is set to factor heavily into the MCU from here on out, then there’s no reason why Red Guardian can’t follow suit, with the entire Black Widow family potentially making their presences felt long into the future.

Black Widow Director Explains Why Natasha Didn’t Get An Avengers: Endgame Funeral

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first feature film for two years is dominating the cultural conversation, as you’d expect when the most successful franchise in history returns to the big screen after a two-year absence. Black Widow is an interesting mix of prequel, origin story and expansion of the mythology all at once, paying off several major plot points and character beats in regards to Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff.

Of course, there’s a bittersweet tinge to the entire operation when fans know that they’ll never get to see the title heroine reunite with her surrogate family again, but it nonetheless provides a sense of closure. After making the ultimate sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, a lot of MCU supporters were miffed that Nat didn’t get a funeral, especially when almost everyone to have played a major role in the Infinity Saga showed up for Tony Stark’s farewell.

At the time, the Russo brothers explained that decision by putting it in pretty simple terms. Black Widow was already scheduled for release by that point, while Robert Downey Jr. was done with the MCU. It makes complete sense, but in a new interview director Cate Shortland explained that Johansson was one of the main driving forces behind not giving Natasha a big sendoff in Endgame.

“Scarlett talked to me about it. Her character would have hated a public funeral. So I felt like the fact that she’s buried in a really private place, in the boondocks somewhere, is perfect.”

It’s all tying together eventually, as you’d expect from Kevin Feige’s approach to the interconnected mythology. Not only does Black Widow end with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova visiting Natasha’s grave, but it sets several storylines in motion for the future to continue the MCU’s relentless desire to keep moving forward with each new project, even when we’re saying goodbye to someone that had been a stalwart since the earliest days of Phase One.

Karen Gillan Was Brought To Tears By Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Script

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to begin shooting before the end of the year, and by the time the cosmic epic hits theaters in May 2023, the dysfunctional titular team will have experienced the longest gap ever between Marvel Cinematic Universe sequels, with six years having passed since Vol. 2.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and fans have long since been champing at the bit to see Star-Lord and the gang make their return. The good news is that the Holiday Special is coming to Disney Plus during next year’s festive season, but the bad news is that Vol. 3 definitely marks the end of the line for Dave Bautista’s tenure as Drax, and possibly even Gunn’s stewardship of the property.

There’s evidently going to be a huge emotional undercurrent to what could be the last outing for the current lineup of the Guardians, and in a new interview Karen Gillan revealed that she was brought to tears during her first read through of the script with co-star Pom Klementieff.

“I read that script with Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis. We read it together and we both cried and laughed, but there was full tears. It’s incredible, I think it’s James’ strongest work yet with the Guardians and it’s just brilliant. It’s brilliant and it’s emotional and it’s funny and it’s all of those things that you want.”

Nebula has become an increasingly integral part of the MCU over the years, shifting allegiances from villain to hero and back again, but her arc across Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, coupled with an upcoming appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder, would indicate that she’s firmly erring on the side of good.

Whatever the case, the promise of some serious emotional heft to counterbalance the wit, humor and stylish set pieces we’re expecting from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be sending the squad out in a blaze of glory, and there’s every chance there might not even be a dry eye left in the house by the time the credits roll.

Steve-O Reveals Disgusting Dog Poop Stunt That Was Rejected For Jackass 4

Steve-O may have been clean and sober for thirteen years having conquered his personal demons, but that doesn’t mean he’s toned down his wild and crazy antics in the slightest. On just the second day of shooting on Jackass 4, he ended up in the hospital alongside Johnny Knoxville, and even at 47 years old he’s still pushing the envelope when it comes to dangerous and often disgusting stunts.

One of the major questions surrounding the upcoming fourth installment in the franchise, one that’s also been posed by the cast and filmmakers themselves, is whether or not audiences will have much interest in seeing a bunch of middle-aged guys doing the same stuff that first brought them to mainstream attention and notoriety over two decades ago.

Steve-O has now unveiled the awful circumstances to follow a gag that was deemed to far for Jackass 4, but he went ahead and did it anyway. However, he’s probably regretting that decision after being admitted to the hospital with an ear canal full of dog sh*t.

“My ear canal is filled with dog sh*t and it came with such force that I’ve done serious damage to the middle of my ear. So I rush into the shower to try to flush it out, but I’m like, ‘I’m not okay, I need medical attention’. Of course, first I got a haircut. Once I was all styling, I went to the urgent care.

I’ve, of course watched every video I’ve posted as a story. But. I just can’t. I just ate breakfast! And I can barely pick up and carry my little fur babes packages on our walks. I do! Reluctantly… You’ll have to tell me in the comments if I’ve damaged you. And did I mention this WASN’T deemed worthy for the latest Jackass movie?! Even for me, this was seriously stupid.”

Jackass

There’s suffering for your art, and then there’s this. A man pushing 50 being willingly shot in the face with a t-shirt cannon full of poop is unusual to say the least, and maybe the Jackass crew are softening in their advancing years if they thought it wasn’t suitable for whatever they’re cooking up.

Of course, if Steve-O has an idea for something he believes to be gnarly enough then he’ll do it no matter the consequences, and you can only imagine the looks he was getting from seasoned medical professionals as he explained the severity of how he ended up with an earful of excrement in the first place.

Final Black Widow Scene Retcons The Ending Of Captain America: Civil War

Slotting a prequel into an already established timeline is always a tricky task, especially when it comes to a franchise that fans are so invested in, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Widow does suffer a couple of sticky moments from having to stuff itself into such a predetermined box, but for the most part Cate Shortland’s blockbuster pulls it off.

In one case, it even erases some questions about a previous installment in the series, presenting a more logical conclusion than the one we were originally given. At the end of Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers suddenly shows up on the Raft to bust his fellow Avengers out of the high security facility, thus setting the stage for Avengers: Infinity War.

However, plenty of questions were raised by the brief sequence, and none of them were answered. The Raft sits out in the middle of the ocean, and Steve Rogers went in alone, so how did he get there? Not only that, but how did he manage to infiltrate the prison on his own, scurry a handful of superheroes to safety and then escape without anyone noticing, especially when he had no mode of transport?

Well, Black Widow offers that answer. Right before the end of the film, Natasha Romanoff pays a final visit to Rick Mason, who has somehow managed to acquire a Quinjet. Nat is sporting her Infinity War look, so this is clearly a direct lead-in to the penultimate chapter in the Infinity Saga. Therefore, it would be reasonable to assume that she uses the jet to team up with Steve and break out the imprisoned members of Team Cap, who are all back together by the time Thanos makes his presence felt, and thus tying up yet another one of the MCU;s tiny loose ends.
