Lucasfilm Reportedly Wants To Give Katee Sackhoff Her Own Star Wars Movie

Last week’s episode of The Mandalorian was a major one as it brought a popular character from the Star Wars animated universe to live-action for the first time. Not Ahsoka Tano, though she is on her way, but Bo-Katan Kryze, the Mandalorian warrior as played by Katee Sackhoff. While Ahsoka will be portrayed by Rosario Dawson on the show, whereas Ashley Eckstein voiced her on The Clone Wars and Rebels, Sackhoff has embodied the character in both mediums.

And she might get to play Bo-Katan in the movie medium, too. We Got This Covered has heard from our sources – the same ones who told us that Ahsoka was coming to The Mandalorian in the first place – that Lucasfilm is thinking about giving Sackhoff her own SW movie. We’ve been told that they want to give Bo-Katan her own spinoff flick. It hasn’t been specified yet, but we’d imagine this would be headed for Disney Plus and not a theatrical release.

We know that The Mandalorian is going to be geared towards producing as many spinoffs as possible going forward. First up is the Boba Fett miniseries featuring Temuera Morrison, following his brief cameo in the season 2 premiere. An Ahsoka show is likely to arrive after that. It only makes sense that Bo-Katan has got a future in the live-action franchise as well. Especially with a known name like Sackhoff in the role.

Going by the plot threads left hanging by her Mandalorian appearance, a spinoff movie could explore how Bo-Katan went from possessing the darksaber and planning to use it to unite the Mandalorian people to having lost it to Moff Gideon and becoming a rebel outlaw once again, as we saw in Chapter 11. Alternatively, if season 2 ends up explaining this itself, a Bo-Katan film could follow on from there and explore what happens to her next.

Who wants to see Katee Sackhoff get her own Star Wars movie? Sound off in the comments.

Lucasfilm Reportedly Wants To Introduce A Trans Jedi In Future Star Wars Project

From the off, the Disney era of Star Wars aimed to diversify the franchise somewhat, with actors of color like John Boyega and Oscar Isaac in the main cast. Of course, the way their characters were sidelined by the time of The Rise of Skywalker has lost the studio a lot of points. Likewise, the LGBT representation in the saga is still virtually non-existent. For instance, the same-sex kiss between two women in TROS was hyped up before release, but easy to miss in the actual film.

Star Wars needs to make some huge strides in better representation across the board going forward, then, particularly when it comes to LGBTQ+ characters. And thankfully, it seems the studio is well aware of this and is working on a major first for the franchise, as insider Daniel Richtman claims that they want to introduce a trans Jedi in a future project.

“I hear Lucasfilm wants a Trans Jedi,” says the tipster on his Patreon account.

Unfortunately, Richtman didn’t share anything more about the nature of the role, but hopefully execs will learn from last time and this individual will be an important character and not just a token minor presence. The biggest advancements in LGBT rep are being made on TV and not in film these days, so I’d personally speculate that the character could show up in a Disney Plus project and not something headed to cinemas, but I could be wrong.

Still, Din Djarin’s currently on the hunt for the Jedi in The Mandalorian, so it’s possible that a trans Jedi may appear in some upcoming spinoff of the hit show. There are many in the works, after all, including a Boba Fett miniseries and likely a vehicle for Ahsoka, too. Whatever form this project or the character take, though, it’s certainly encouraging news for the future of Star Wars
