Fans Want Colin Farrell To Replace Johnny Depp As Grindelwald In Fantastic Beasts 3

The Fantastic Beasts franchise made the bold decision to drop Johnny Depp as Grindelwald by asking the actor to resign from the role, and there’s already been a huge wave of backlash from fans. People were supporting the 57 year-old after he lost his latest court battle, and they blasted Disney when the studio decided to move forward on two Pirates of the Caribbean movies without him. As such, Warner Bros. should be bracing themselves for some heavy criticism.

After all, there’s an air of double standards about the whole thing, but with the majority of the issues between Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard focusing on accusations of spousal abuse, all parties need to tread a fine line. Of course, Heard is set to return as Mera in Aquaman 2, and J.K. Rowling is still heavily involved in the production of Fantastic Beasts 3 despite incurring the wrath of the internet on several occasions this year, so it appears that Depp is the one that’s been made to suffer.

Petitions have now been launched in an effort to reinstate him as Grindelwald, even though we all know they never work, but there’s also a groundswell of support gathering behind Colin Farrell returning to the Wizarding World. Having played Percival Graves in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, his character has a place in the mythology already that could be easily retconned, and you can check out some of the reactions from fans below.

Of course, Farrell might not want to get involved in the increasingly troubled Fantastic Beasts 3, and it looks like the fates are currently conspiring against a spinoff series that was struggling to retain much enthusiasm or optimism from the audience even before the latest batch of setbacks. But regardless of what happens, it’ll be interesting to see how WB proceeds from here.

The Haunting Of Bly Manor Creator Praises Netflix’s Hit New Horror Movie

Mike Flanagan knows a thing or two about horror, having built up a reputation as one of the genre’s premiere auteurs over the last decade by scaring audiences witless with the likes of Oculus, Hush and Ouija: Origin of Evil, and proved just as adept at the more cerebral and existential aspects of filmmaking with Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep.

He’s no stranger to finding massive success of Netflix, either, after creating the streaming service’s The Haunting anthology series, and both Hill House and Bly Manor scored widespread critical acclaim and racked up huge viewership numbers in the process. The 42 year-old is currently hard at work on his next Netflix project Midnight Mass, but recently took some time to praise Remi Weekes’ phenomenal His House.

his-house

The low budget chiller was released right around Halloween, and freaked out subscribers around the world on its way to cracking the Top 10 most-watched list. The tale of two refugees who fled from Sudan only to discover that they’d literally brought their ghosts with them has quickly gained a reputation as perhaps the year’s finest horror movie, and still boasts a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 100% with over 70 reviews in the can. Flanagan had high praise for His House, too, as you can see below.

As far as calling cards go, they don’t come much better than this, and Weekes’ next project will instantly generate plenty of interest from anyone that’s caught his debut feature, one that offers a deft balance of social and political subtext in among the genuinely terrifying scenes that have instantly marked him out as a fast rising talent behind the camera that’s well worth keeping an eye on.

Amber Heard Reportedly Likely To Have A Reduced Role In Aquaman 2

After the defamation lawsuit launched by Johnny Depp against The Sun magazine ended in his former wife’s favor, Warner Bros. announced that they’re moving ahead with Fantastic Beasts 3 without the actor. Now, amid these controversial developments, some are reporting that they may reduce Amber Heard’s role in Aquaman 2 as well.

It came as an absolute shock that despite all the evidence mounting up against the London Fields star, the UK court ruled in her favor. Depp will now have to go through even more blacklisting than he did back in 2016 after their separation and the messy court feud has obviously left a stain on both parties’ careers in Hollywood.

WB recently announced that they’re recasting Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts film series, leading to a lot of rageful comments about the company and its policies across social media platforms. It seems, though, that they’re also taking some action with Heard. As you know, the actress will reprise her part as Mera in Aquaman 2, but according to insider Grace Randolph, the creator of the Beyond The Trailer channel on YouTube, the studio is thinking of ways to reduce her role and its subsequent impact on the story.

In fairness, this isn’t all that surprising to hear. Such controversial elements are always a worry with these big blockbuster projects as they can dissuade the film’s target group or, at the very least, give more inclination to bad press.

Even if that weren’t the case, the state of the couple’s legal battle has inevitably turned legions of Depp’s fans against Amber Heard and frankly, any project that she’s attached to. In that sense, then, this is probably a wise decision for WB to make in regards to the Aquaman sequel.

Fantastic Beasts 3 Delayed Another Year, Now Coming In 2022

The never-ending saga of Fantastic Beasts 3 continues. Today, we learned the shocking news that Warner Bros. has asked Johnny Depp to step down from his role as Gellert Grindelwald, which he has agreed to do. This means that the studio needs to find themselves a new leading villain to pit against Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander and Jude Law’s Albus Dumbledore. And it seems they’ll be requiring some extra time to secure Depp’s replacement.

Yes, Fantastic Beasts 3 has been delayed yet again. In a statement released to Variety in the wake of the actor sharing the news of his dismissal on Instagram, WB confirmed that Depp has departed the franchise and that the prequel threequel is now scheduled to hit theaters in summer 2022. Variety affirmed that no specific date has been decided upon as yet, but it was previously due to land on November 12th, 2021.

Here’s WB’s full statement:

“Johnny Depp will depart the Fantastic Beasts franchise. We thank Johnny for his work on the films to date. Fantastic Beasts 3 is currently in production, and the role of Gellert Grindelwald will be recast. The film will debut in theaters worldwide in the summer of 2022.”

Once upon a time, the original plan was for FB3 to arrive this very month, but the cast’s many commitments and the studio’s ambitions to beef up the script pushed it back into 2021. Filming had already been held up over the pandemic, but now it seems that things will be put on hold even longer in order to accommodate the search for a new Grindelwald.

It’s definitely starting to seem like this movie is cursed, as it keeps getting hit by more and more setbacks and controversies as time goes on. WB already feared the weakening box office returns of the first two even before the J.K. Rowling and Johnny Depp scandals took their tolls, so the pressure is really on this next film to give the Wizarding World franchise a boost. But will audiences even care that much when Fantastic Beasts 3 finally debuts four years after the last instalment?
