Watch: New Star Wars Video Highlights Every Ship In The Sequel Trilogy

The ships of Star Wars are some of the most iconic in science fiction and you’d have to be living under a rock not to be able to identify at least an X-Wing or a TIE Fighter. Disney’s Sequel Trilogy recognized this, giving us a number of variants of the classic crafts, bringing back past favorites and introducing some cool new designs. But just how many types of ships were there across the entire trilogy?

Well, a new video posted on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel claims to have listed them all in chronological order, taking us on a nicely edited (and soundtracked!) tour of the Sequel Trilogy while labelling each type of ship as they appear. According to this video, there are 85, although almost half of them are featured in the final battle of The Rise of Skywalker.

Of course, eagle-eyed fans have already picked over every frame of that battle, so there’s not a huge amount of surprises there. Still, it’s nice to see the streamlined Naboo Starfighter from The Phantom Menace, a Wookiee gunship from Revenge of the Sith and the Ghost from Star Wars Rebels.

This is just the latest in the channel’s Star Wars by the Numbers series, and despite being targeted at children, I have to admit that they put some serious effort into these. Previous hits have included Every Droid in Star Wars, Every Leia Look in Star Wars and Every Surface Vehicle in Star Wars. But those pale in comparison to the truly astonishing feats of time and editing required to create the Doors Opening Vs. Doors Closing in Star Wars and Every Time ‘Master’ is Said in Star Wars videos.

Whoever’s putting these things together probably deserves a big raise and by this point, likely knows Star Wars better than most people at Lucasfilm do.

Indie darling Alto’s Adventure and its sequel are finally coming to PS4, Xbox One and Switch

Alto’s Adventure and Alto’s Odyssey, two mobile games we at The Verge love because of their beautiful art style and polished gameplay, are finally coming to PS4, Xbox One, and the Epic Games Store as The Alto Collection on August 13th. Prototype of SpaceX’s future Starship rocket flies short hop to 500 feet

Just two days after returning its first astronauts back to Earth, SpaceX successfully flew a prototype of its next-generation, deep-space rocket in south Texas, sending the vehicle up to 500 feet and then landing it back down on Earth. It’s the largest test version of the massive spaceship to see some air.

The prototype is that of SpaceX’s Starship, a spacecraft the company wants to build to transport people to deep-space worlds like the Moon and Mars. The final version of the spaceship would stand at nearly 400 feet high and 30 feet wide, and be capable of sending more than 100 tons of cargo into low Earth orbit, according to SpaceX. Avatar 2 Set Photo Reveals First Look At New Mech The Crabsuit

A very big part of Avatar’s success was obviously how visually stunning the world of Pandora was. Even today, over a decade later, the 2009 sci-fi blockbuster is one of the most gorgeous pieces of cinematic eye candy that we’ve ever seen. Not to mention it also really ushered in the fad of 3D cinema – for better or worse.

Of course, the sequel will up the ante in terms of visuals and though we’ve yet to see much of it, we know that the film will be relying heavily on underwater sequences, meaning we’ll probably be getting some incredible alien marine flora and fauna. But what we’ll also be getting is a new mech.

At least, that’s according to the movie’s official Twitter account, which shared the below photos along with the following caption:

Even from just these pics, this new vehicle looks pretty awesome and we can’t wait to see it in action and how Cameron will use it in the film. Knowing the director, he’s probably got some very cool sequences dreamed up.

That being said, it’ll unfortunately be a while yet before we get to lay eyes on it on the big screen, as Avatar 2 won’t be with us until December 2022. And that’s if everything goes according to plan and the COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t wreak havoc with the production. For now, though, these exciting looks behind the scenes will have to keep us going and with any luck, maybe we’ll even get some official stills in the not too distant future.

Disney CEO Addresses If Black Widow Will Release On Disney Plus

Today brought major news for Disney fans as it was announced that Mulan will be released on streaming in September, at the premium price of $29.99. This appeared to set a major precedent for the studio’s release schedule moving forward. For months, it’s been wondered whether both Mulan and Black Widow would be dropped on Disney Plus. Now we know that that’s the case for one of them, all eyes are on Scarlett Johansson’s Marvel movie.

We’ve got confirmation from Disney CEO Bob Chapek, however, that it’s not currently the Mouse House’s plan to replicate Mulan‘s release model with Black Widow. Speaking during the studio’s quarterly investment call, Chapek labelled the live-action remake’s D+ debut a “one-off” and something that they’re not anticipating repeating with future films at this time.

“We are looking at Mulan as a one-off as opposed to saying there’s a new business windowing model we are looking at,” Chapek explained.

Of course, all this could change if home audiences lap up the chance to watch Mulan via streaming and it makes a ton of cash. Still, at present, we shouldn’t be expecting BW to come out the same way. Disney will always prefer a theatrical release if they can help it, so it seems like the aim is for it to hit cinemas this November, as has been the intention since Marvel shuffled along all of their Phase 4 productions back in April.

Whether the health crisis has abated enough to make visiting the cinema a regular activity again by then, though, we just don’t know at this stage. Many fans have obviously been crying out for Disney to simply release Black Widow online rather than delay it. Even star David Harbour has called for this outcome. But for now, we’ll just have to see how well Mulan performs on Disney Plus next month and go from there.

Controversial engineer Anthony Levandowski, who worked for the Google division that would become Waymo before founding trucking company Otto and selling it to Uber, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for trade secret theft during his various stints in the self-driving industry. His sentencing closes the book on a multi-year legal saga stemming from Levandowski’s high-rising and equally fast-falling career in Silicon Valley spanning much of the past decade.

WhatsApp adds search feature to help users debunk viral messages

WhatsApp is piloting a new feature that lets users quickly search the contents of viral messages to fact-check misinformation, the company has announced. Starting today, a magnifying glass icon will start appearing next to messages that have been forwarded through a chain of five or more people. Tapping it searches for the message’s contents online, with the idea being that this should reveal any common conspiracy theories or misinformation the message contains.

In a screenshot of the feature released by WhatsApp, it uses the example of a viral message which claims that “drinking fresh boiled garlic water will cure COVID-19.” A web search brings up three fact-checking websites, which flag this claim as false. Back in March, CNN reported...
