Tom Cruise Teaming Up With NASA To Film New Action Movie In Space

By the time the still-untitled eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise arrives, star Tom Cruise will have been playing Ethan Hunt for well over two decades. That’s an awful long time for any one actor to be playing a character in a movie franchise and especially in this current climate, where everything under the sun is being rebooted.

But with Cruise now pushing 60, you’d think that it’d almost be time for him to start slowing down and maybe taking it a bit easy. Perhaps move into quieter dramas or even retire from acting altogether, right? Well, for almost anyone else, that’d probably be the case, but this being Tom Cruise, he’s decided to push things even further. And the only way to do that given all the wild, high-octane stunts he’s already performed across the Mission: Impossible series is by going into space.

That’s right, Deadline is reporting tonight that the Top Gun star is teaming up with NASA and Elon Musk’s Space X to shoot the first narrative feature film – an action adventure flick, obviously – in space. It’s not part of the Mission: Impossible franchise and no studio is attached just yet, but the project is definitely beginning to come together. And that’s where the details end.

At this early, early sage, Deadline unfortunately doesn’t have anything else to share. But this is obviously a hugely ambitious movie and one that likely won’t come together for a long, long time – if at all. After all, we imagine there are many, many complications when it comes to getting something like this made and it might just be too difficult in the end. But it’s certainly something that Tom Cruise is actively pursuing and we can only hope he ends up pulling it off.

Tumblr will now remove all reblogs of posts that violate its hate speech policy

Tumblr on Monday announced an update to its hate speech policy, announcing on its blog that it would start cutting down on the reach of posts considered hate speech by removing all reblogs of terminated content. Tumblr says it’s specifically targeting speech from Nazis and other white supremacist groups, which it says still be amplified on its platform through reblogs even after the original post was removed for violating its hate speech policies.

“Many of you have called on us to further reevaluate how we deal with hate speech, particularly hate speech from Nazis or other white supremacist groups. Today we’re letting you know that we heard you, and we are taking further action,” Tumblr, which is now owned by WordPress creator...

Darth Maul Actor Says Rian Johnson Didn’t Do His Homework On Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Few mainstream Hollywood blockbusters provoke the level of constant debate Star Wars: The Last Jedi does. Two and a half years after its release and people are still weighing in on whether it was a bold reinvention of Star Wars canon, or a woeful defilement of its antecedents.

Now, another figure (not too grandiose a term) has given their Last Jedi piece. Sam Witwer is known to fans for voice roles in multiple sub-franchises, including The Clone Wars, The Force Unleashed and Rebels. In a recent Twitch stream (reported by CBR), Witwer gave his refreshingly candid views on the film, and on Rian Johnson’s handling of its subject matter, saying:

“Last Jedi, to me, felt like a movie made by a guy who hadn’t quite done his homework. I think Rian Johnson’s a talented guy, but Bruce Lee didn’t develop Jeet Kune Do without learning Kung Fu first. You can’t reinvent Star Wars without knowing Star Wars first.”

“[He] didn’t — for me — make a compelling argument for why Luke didn’t go and help his sister.

Witwer then emphasized:

“This is just my opinion, guys. There were a lot of things in The Last Jedi I found compelling in a Rian Johnson filmmaker point of view. They just didn’t fit into Star Wars. I don’t think he did his Star Wars homework. The themes, what it’s about, what the characters are about.”

I dearly hope the overlords at Disney don’t reprimand him over this. His criticisms are of Johnson, not of employers Walt D. It’s also good to know someone, albeit a minor figure in the extended franchise, felt confident enough to speak openly about the movie. I suspect we’ll be getting Last Jedi takes until the end of time, too.

Have any takes of your own, though? Asking for comments on the subject of Episode VIII is like setting off the Doomsday Weapon in your back garden. You could get a more civilized response by stepping on a Rottweiler’s tail. The Last Jedi may be many things, but social lubricant it ain’t.

Extraction 2 Moving Forward At Netflix, Joe Russo To Write The Script

It’s only been just over a week since Extraction hit Netflix and the movie has already become an absolute sensation. It’s found itself with a huge fanbase on social media, who’ve been hailing it as a thrilling, action-packed ride that makes for some great viewing during this period of global lockdown, while critics have been fairly kind to it as well.

Not only that, but the viewing figures have been quite impressive, too, with Netflix boasting about its success last week and star Chris Hemsworth thanking fans for making it such a huge success. As such, a follow-up of some sort – be it a prequel or sequel – always seemed likely and today, it’s been made official.

Deadline is reporting that Extraction 2 is moving forward at Netflix. Of course, We Got This Covered reported over a week ago that another movie in the series was in the works and now, it seems our scoop has been confirmed. Unfortunately, the outlet can’t confirm if it’ll be a straight up sequel or a prequel, but speaking to our own sources, we’ve heard that both are happening – it’s just unclear right now which one will come first.

Speaking to Deadline about the follow-up, here’s what Joe Russo – who’s returning to write the script – had to say:

“The deal is closed for me to write Extraction 2, and we are in the formative stages of what the story can be. We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience.”

As for who else might return, well, Russo said he expects director Sam Hargrave to be back, but as of yet, Hemsworth hasn’t officially signed on. Apparently, the plan is to get a script together first and then show it to him. Though we can’t see any reason why he’d refuse to reprise his role. After all, the film was a massive hit for him and he’s already expressed interest in doing a sequel. So again, there’s no reason for him not to sign back on and return as Tyler Rake.

Of course, there aren’t any plot details to speak of just yet, but Extraction 2 is indeed a go at Netflix and we cannot wait to see what the streaming giant and the filmmakers cook up for us next.

HP’s new Omen gaming desktops get a glow up

HP has debuted a fresh lineup of Omen desktops, the 25L and 30L, with improved specs and a clean new design that ditches the edgy gamer aesthetic for something a little more refined. Compared to HP’s older Omen desktop designs — particularly, one we’ll refer to as the Death Cube — the new design is far less divisive and a lot more elegant.

It got rid of the flashy, old logo and simplified the look of the chassis. Sure, you can set the LEDs to display whichever color you’d like, but importantly, even that looks more subtle than HP’s past approach to desktop design. Aesthetics aside, these machines should be better at staying cool, as HP made the case’s feet nearly four times taller to allow for better airflow.
