Black Widow Super Bowl TV Spot Teases The Start Of Marvel’s Phase 4

Our first look at the next MCU film to arrive came back in December, with the Black Widow trailer teasing what to expect from Scarlett Johansson’s first standalone outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Natasha Romanoff. Now, about two months later, we’ve got yet another look at the spinoff, which gives us an even better feel for what’s in store for fans come this May.

Sure, we all saw the heroine meet her end during Avengers: Endgame, but Black Widow will get around that by diving back into Natasha’s past. Specifically, it’ll focus on what she was doing between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, as well as traveling even further back in her timeline to explain how she defected to S.H.I.E.L.D. in the first place.

This latest trailer teases more of that, with additional looks at Widow’s mysterious backstory and the characters who populated her history. Taskmaster, Red Guardian, Yelena Belova…they’re all here and with a few glimpses of fresh footage provided for each of them, fans get a much better idea of what to expect from the pic. And frankly, it’s all pretty promising, with this new preview painting an exciting picture of the film that’s set to kickoff Phase 4.

But Black Widow is only the first of two MCU movies hitting cinemas this year, with The Eternals also on the way and arriving in November. The Marvel goodness doesn’t end there, either, as the studio also has two TV shows headed to Disney Plus later in 2020 with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision. In other words, it’s going to be an interesting and exciting year for MCU fans and it all gets started this May, when Scarlett Johansson returns to our screens.

Fast & Furious 9 Super Bowl TV Spot Kicks It Up A Notch

Fast & Furious 9 – or F9, as they seem to be calling it now – is heading to theaters later this year and Universal wants to make sure that everyone knows.

Indeed, after a prolonged period of radio silence, the floodgates really opened this week. Be it teasers, character posters and even the first full-length trailer, the studio’s unleashed a ton of promo material on us over the past few days, but they aren’t done yet. Given that the Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event of the year, and F9 will probably be one of the biggest films of the year – at least, in terms of scope and scale – it only makes sense for Universal to deliver yet another look at the movie during the game and that’s exactly what they did earlier tonight.

Seen up above is a new preview for Fast & Furious 9, and this one goes all-in on the action, for the most part. Yes, the focus here is very much on the larger than life set pieces and jaw-dropping stunts/chase scenes that this next installment promises to deliver, and frankly, we’re already sold. We may have already seen most of this in the trailer that dropped on Friday, but cutting it together into a shorter, more fast-paced promo certainly does well to sell the pic as a pure adrenaline rush.

All that being said, it doesn’t look like the franchise is straying too far from what fans love about it with F9 and that might not sit well with some, as the past few movies have all been a bit too similar to one another. But you can’t deny that they’ve been a ton of fun and almost every installment in this juggernaut series is a good time at the theater.

Fast & Furious 9 certainly looks like it’ll fall in line in that regard and as of now, we’ve very excited to see how they’ll top what’s come before when the movie drives into cinemas on May 22nd, 2020.

Dazzling New Mulan Trailer Debuts During Super Bowl

A new TV spot for Disney’s upcoming Mulan remake arrived during the Super Bowl tonight and continues to show off the action-oriented focus that this new take on the classic story is sticking with.

Unlike some of the studio’s previous remakes, like the soulless reiterations of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, or failed attempts at expansion like Aladdin, this particular project is more about placing a spotlight on the story of the warrior rather than just going down the same path we already went down in the animated original.

That being said, the basic premise will be familiar to fans. Set in a time of war when the Emperor of China orders that one man from every household has to join the army, a young woman disguises herself and joins in place of her aging father. But that’s where the similarities end more or less, as this new promo teases a much different version of the story. One that unfortunately won’t feature the fast-talking, wisecracking guardian dragon Mushu, and will also be leaving out all those enjoyable musical numbers from the 1998 version.

All things considered, though different from what we may be used to, Mulan certainly looks promising. Though it’s important to remember that the movie’s courted controversy lately, with its star accused of supporting police brutality in Hong Kong back in 2019, which led to the #BoycottMulan campaign going viral.

Will this have any effect on its box office numbers? Perhaps, but with a budget of $300 million, Mulan is going to have to make a lot of money to turn in a profit for Disney. If there’s one thing that the Mouse House is mighty good at though, it’s printing money.

The Pedestrian is so much more than its great aesthetic

Skookum Arts

It can be difficult to find time to finish a video game, especially if you only have a few hours a week to play. In our biweekly column Short Play we suggest video games that can be started and finished in a weekend.

Logic puzzle games tend to fall into one of two groups. Sometimes they’re like sudoku, where once you learn the basics of how to solve the puzzle you can just repeat that ad infinitum. Or they can be like the Professor Layton games, where each puzzle is discrete and requires you to relearn everything to solve it. In either case, it’s often hard to tell if you’re actually getting better at the puzzles as you play through them. There is often little sense of progress. But that’s not the case with The Pedestrian.

The world of record players and vinyl can be intimidating to the uninitiated because the gear that playing records requires (preamps, amps, receivers) can make it seem like an expensive, overly complicated hobby. But that’s not true, according to the experts we spoke with — including DJs, record store owners, and general vinyl geeks — all of whom assured us that you don’t need more than a turntable and a pair of powered speakers, or speakers with a built-in amplifier, to get started (Audioengine powered speakers, like the A2+ model on this list, are a good brand to start with, according to DJ Prestige of Flea Market Funk).

Alleged leaked video shows off Samsung’s folding Galaxy Z Flip

Ben Geskin / Twitter

Samsung’s next folding phone is likely to be announced this month, and what appears to be the first hands-on video with the device has just appeared online. Leaker Ben Geskin has posted a short clip purportedly showing the phone, said to be called the Galaxy Z Flip, in action on Twitter.

The video doesn’t show a great deal more than what we’ve already seen in leaked photos and renders — we still can’t tell whether the phone is using a new form of “ultra-thin glass” from Samsung, for example. But if you’ve been wondering how the Z Flip might work out in practice, it may well be of interest. The phone does look like it might be quite a bit easier to slip into a pocket or handbag than pretty much anything else out there — except maybe M...
