New Fast & Furious 9 Poster Promises Justice For Han

If you’ve been keeping up to date on the news surrounding Fast & Furious 9, then you’ll know just how surprising today has been. A few hours ago, the film’s first trailer finally made its debut, and with it, revealed that fan-favorite Han is in fact alive, despite his apparent death all the way back in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Of course, WGTC first reported on actor Sung Kang’s return a few months back, but up until today, it wasn’t quite clear if he would be appearing in flashbacks, or whether or not the series’ next entry might take place earlier in the ongoing timeline.

Of course, fans are going wild after hearing of his return, and unsurprisingly, there’s been a renewed call for #JusticeForHan. For those who aren’t entirely familiar with the situation, here’s a quick rundown. As we mentioned, Han was supposedly killed during the events of Tokyo Drift, but it was later revealed in Fast & Furious 6 that the man who was responsible for his “death” was none other than Deckard Shaw. This was all fine and well, but fans took issue with how quickly Shaw was folded into and accepted by Dominic Torreto (Vin Diesel) and his street racing crew. And thus, the #JusticeForHan campaign took form.

Since then, the franchise’s creative crew has promised that Shaw’s role in Han’s “death” would be addressed, and it looks like they might finally be delivering on their promise. Earlier today, a new poster for Fast & Furious 9 began making the rounds, and it’s emblazoned with the tagline “Justice Is Coming.” Seeing as how the poster features Han leaning against a car, it’s reasonable to assume that things will be addressed when the film drops later this year on May 22nd.

We’re curious though, what are your thoughts on Han’s return? Do you think the writers are taking too many creative licenses, or would you prefer to have him back in the fold? Let us know in the comments below!

Twitter adds threaded replies to iOS to make it easier to see ongoing conversations

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge

Twitter announced a subtle design change to its iOS app today that may go a long way in both making conversations easier to parse and to join. The change, which looks like it’s a change on Twitter’s end that does not require an update, is to the threading feature in the Twitter timeline, which currently does a poor job of differentiating between standard tweets and replies.

The update now draws a concrete line between a parent tweet and the replies, with the replies indented slightly and connected by the series of vertical and horizontal lines. It makes a Twitter conversation look effectively like thread of connected notes. The feature was first demoed in the company’s experimental twttr beta app back in spring of last year. It only...

Nintendo says it has no plans for a new Switch this year

Photo by James Bareham / The Verge

Nintendo CEO and president Shuntaro Furukawa told investors today that the company has “no plans” to launch a new model of the Switch in 2020. Speaking as part of a corporate management policy briefing following yesterday’s release of financial results, Furukawa instead pointed to today’s announcement of the new Animal Crossing-branded model.

“According to the conventional wisdom for dedicated video game platforms, Nintendo Switch should be entering the midway phase of the hardware lifecycle,” Furukawa said. “But we believe we have built a foundation on which we can pursue further growth opportunities for Nintendo Switch.”

It wouldn’t really be surprising if there were no new Switch hardware this year. The original system came out in...

Roku is losing Fox apps just in time for you to miss the Super Bowl, maybe

If you were hoping to watch the Super Bowl on your Roku TV or set-top box, I hope you don’t mind paying for streaming services like FuboTV, Sling or Hulu, because your existing cable subscription is no good as of today — Roku is pulling all of its Fox apps off of the platform, effective tomorrow, two days before the Big Game.

That might strike you as sudden, considering we reported this very morning that Fox Sports was working hard to bring a 4K HDR stream of the Super Bowl to Roku’s streaming sticks, pucks, and TVs. But minutes ago, Fox Sports removed references to Roku from multiple spots on its Super Bowl website, and we confirmed with Roku that seven channels in total are leaving... unless Fox and Roku strike a deal.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Actor Reveals Shocking Alternate Ending

There was a heck of a lot of pressure on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to provide a satisfying ending to the Sequel Trilogy, so it’s not surprising that the actual ending it delivered has proven to be a hugely divisive one. Just to jog your memory, it sees Kylo Force-resurrecting Rey after her battle with Palpatine, sacrificing his own life in the process. Rey then goes on to Tatooine, where she tells a local her name: “Rey… Rey Skywalker.”

There are various elements of this that are controversial, but probably the big two are Kylo’s death – which is essentially identical to Vader’s demise in Return of the Jedi – and Rey taking on the Skywalker name, which some have viewed as forced. It’s fascinating to hear, then, that an alternate ending was shot and included in earlier cuts of the movie. And it completely flipped Rey and Kylo’s fates.

While speaking with Popcorn Talk, actor Juan Bautista – who played one of the Knights of Ren – revealed that an initial version of the film he saw featured Rey remaining dead. In this conclusion, Kylo was the one to survive and went on to repent his past sins. The final scene of the movie would’ve been much the same, though, with Kylo traveling to Tatooine and naming himself Skywalker.

Whether this ending would’ve been any more popular is hard to say, but it’s certainly shocking to hear about. No doubt a lot of fans would’ve loved to have seen Kylo survive. The idea of him also looking to make amends for his crimes with the First Order would’ve been a fascinating premise for future Star Wars media to explore. However, you can bet that an equal amount would have been furious that Rey was killed. Honestly, probably the most popular ending they could’ve done was to keep both alive. But then maybe that would have lacked the necessary dramatic punch.

We likely won’t see this alternate ending materialize any time soon, meaning we’ll never know if it would’ve worked better. But let us know what you thought about the conclusion we did get in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in the comments section below.

Now You See Me 3 Reportedly Back On Track, Original Cast Returning

Lionsgate is stating to put the pieces into place for Now You See Me 3, and they’re hoping to reunite the Four Horsemen for more heist movie thrills and mind-bending trickery, with the studio said to be in talks with Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Lizzy Caplan, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine to return. At least, that’s according to sources close to We Got This Covered. And while there was no mention of Dave Franco, we can only assume he’ll be back, too.

Of course, Now You See Me 3 was announced several years ago. Way back in 2015, in fact. But since then, there’ve been little to no updates on the status of the project, leading many to believe it had quietly died out. Now, however, we’re told that it’s back in active development with Lionsgate hoping to get it in front of cameras sooner rather than later.

And given that this intel comes to us from the same sources who also revealed that Lethal Weapon 5 is in development with Danny Glover and Mel GibsonTransformers is being rebooted and National Treasure 3 is in the works, all of which are now confirmed, we’ve no reason to doubt it.

Now You See Me

What’s perhaps most interesting though is that we’re also told there will be two new main characters joining the cast, with the first one described as a young hispanic female in her early 20s, while the other is a male in his 30s. And though no actors have been selected for either role just yet, we’ve heard that for the male character, the studio wants Chris Pratt or Chris Pratt-types for the job.

No word yet on how they may factor into the story, but clearly, the wheels are finally beginning to turn on Now You See Me 3 and with the project now being actively developed, we’ll hopefully get some more firm details on what Lionsgate is cooking up sooner rather than later. Watch this space.

[SPOILERS] Will Reportedly Return In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

In just the last week or two alone, Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness has been rumored to include – deep breath – Nightmare, Brother Voodoo, Umar the Unrelenting, America Chavez, Clea and Namor the Submariner, not to mention the return of Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer and Benedict Wong as, well, Wong. And while it remains to be seen if all of these characters will actually make it into the final cut of the film, we’ve now got one more to add to the list.

The Illuminerdi is reporting that Chiwetel Ejiofor will be back as Mordo. If you’ll recall, when we last saw him he’d lost faith in the Ancient One, believing there were “too many” sorcerers. In fact, the post-credits scene all but confirmed that he’d be back, so to hear that he’s now returning isn’t terribly surprising. Even if it remains to be seen what role he’ll play in what’s already an incredibly crowded film.

Plot-wise, details are still hazy, but we know that Multiverse of Madness follows directly on from the events of WandaVision, and given that it’ll be taking us through multiple alternate realities, it might just be the most important movie and/or TV show in the MCU’s Phase Four. There’s going to be a lot going on it it, after all.

And though much of what we’ve been hearing lately remains unconfirmed, even this report from The Illuminerdi, we should start to get some more concrete details soon. Casting is now officially underway for Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness and with production gearing up to begin in a few months as well, the pieces will slowly begin falling into place for what might just be Marvel’s boldest film yet.
