Disney’s Aladdin Sequel Will Be An Original Story

Disney’s Aladdin remake has raked in more cash than there is in the Cave of Wonders, with the live-action take on the 1992 animated classic earning over $1 billion at the box office. It’s no surprise, then, that Disney is already working on a sequel. Producer Dan Lin recently confirmed that talks are currently underway to expand the franchise and if the plan goes ahead, expect the follow-up to cover fresh ground for the property.

ComicBook.com spoke with Lin this week and asked him which of the animated movie’s sequels would he like to tackle in live-action: Return of Jafar or Aladdin and the King of Thieves? Interestingly, the producer said that Aladdin 2 wouldn’t adapt either one wholesale and would cherrypick elements from “different source material” to create a fresh storyline.

“If I told you the fans would go crazy. It’s just too early for me to reveal. But just know that we’re looking at a lot of different source material and it’s not going to be based on one singular source, but we’re going to take the best of everything that’s been done before and create something fresh and new.”

There’s certainly a lot of source material for Disney to choose from. After all, the Aladdin franchise also spawned an animated series that explored more of the city of Agrabah and gave Al and his friends a range of new enemies to battle. And, of course, there’s also the original Arabian Nights myths to dig into as well. Plus, The King of Thieves played with Greek legends, too, so the potential is really limitless.

There is one hitch, though. At the end of the live-action film, Aladdin wished Genie free of his bonds and he went off to live a happy life as a human. We last saw him years later, married with kids and sailing the world. Will Smith would have to come back for the sequel, of course, but how could the story wrangle it so that he’s a Genie again and doesn’t have a family? Good luck with that one, Disney.

Tell us, what would you like to see from an Aladdin sequel to make sure it’s one jump ahead of the first film? Have your say in the comments section down below.

Star Trek Franchise Looks Set To Follow Marvel And Cross Various Platforms

The Star Trek franchise looks set to go where no franchise has gone before. Well, except maybe one or two.

CBS and Viacom are in the process of a merger, bringing the once-separated rights of the Trek brand under the same roof for the first time in 13 years. And it seems the studio’s going to waste no time in expanding the universe in bold new ways across multiple mediums.

As reported by Deadline, ViacomCBS chief Bob Bakish promised big things for the Trek and Mission: Impossible franchises at today’s investor call, making clear that both have potential to leverage across “all the companies’ platforms.” Incoming CBS CEO Joe Ianniello added that an international angle is also key as “scale is becoming more and more important all the time.”

The last time the Trek universe was under one ownership was back in 2006, with Star Trek: Enterprise having wrapped up the previous year. In this age of shared universes in which we live, you can bet ViacomCBS has eyes on some of that MCU action, with Marvel Studios due to expand its franchise across both the silver screen and the Disney Plus streaming service in the next few years. The same goes for Star Wars, also owned by the Mouse House.

Of course, Trek has already had a huge TV renaissance of late, with Star Trek: Discovery ushering in a range of series on CBS All Access – Patrick Stewart’s much-anticipated return in Star Trek: Picard is probably the cream of the crop. Meanwhile, things have gone quiet on the movie side recently, ever since Star Trek 4 fell through. Quentin Tarantino is working on his own film, though, which does suggest that more original takes on Trek could come our way over time.

Tell us, does the idea of Star Trek taking a leaf out of Star Wars and Marvel’s book get you excited for the future of Starfleet? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below.

The FAA has reportedly banned the recalled MacBook Pro from all flights

Apple Retina MacBook Pro 15 STOCK

This might seem like common sense: if your 2015 MacBook Pro with Retina Display is a fire risk, you can’t bring it on an airplane. But Bloomberg is reporting that the FAA is taking the extra step of explicitly banning those recalled MacBook Pros from being brought aboard as cargo or carry-ons — seemingly singling out these devices like it did with the infamous Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone.

We’ve asked the FAA and TSA to confirm that the MacBook Pro is getting singled out like the Note — we’re not yet seeing any sort of emergency order like before — but if true, a specific ban on the MacBook Pro could be mighty hard to enforce.

Unlike Samsung’s Note 7, which at least had some distinct design characteristics to set it apart from other...

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines Blu-ray Release Date And Extras Revealed

Once we’re ready to put 2019 behind us, I’m confident that we’ll be able to say this year was a great time for DC animation. In my view, Reign of the Supermen, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five and Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were each impressive to varying degrees, with Batman: Hush dazzling audiences most recently.

If those weren’t enough, the talented folks behind these flicks have one more ace up their sleeve, that being Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. For those not up to speed, they should know this’ll be an original tale developed for the direct-to-video market, as opposed to an adaptation of any specific comic book. Furthermore, it’ll indeed take place within the New 52-inspired continuity begun by Justice League: War – only it’s set earlier on the timeline.

Before now, there were only unconfirmed reports regarding when Bloodlines will arrive on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack, but we can now confirm that you can get your mitts on it beginning on October 22nd. Or, if Digital HD is your thing, then you’ll be able to arrive to the party earlier on October 5th.

Something else we’re pleased to share with you are the bonus features, which are as follows:

  • DC Showcase: Death (Animated Short) – Inspired by Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman,” Death is produced & directed by Sam Liu (Justice League vs. The Fatal Five) and written by J.M. DeMatteis (Batman: Bad Blood). In the story, Vincent, an artist with unresolved inner demons, meets a mysterious girl who helps him come to terms with his creative legacy … and eventual death. Leonard Nam (Westworld) provides the voice of Vincent, and Jamie Chung (The Gifted, Big Hero 6) is the voice of Death. The voice cast includes Darin De Paul, Keith Szarabajka and Kari Wahlgren.
  • The Cheetah: Ferocious Archenemy (New Featurette) – Ferocious. Clever. Deadly. It’s the thrill of the hunt and the prey is Wonder Woman. This is the story of The Cheetah, Diana’s greatest enemy.
  • A Sneak Peek at the next DC Universe Movie, Superman: Red Son – An advanced look at the next animated film in the popular DC Universe Movies collection.

Conspicuous by its absence is any mention of a bonus cartoon pulled from the DC Vault, but that doesn’t necessarily mean nothing of the sort will be part of the package. We’re still several months out, so there’s plenty of time for WB to dust off an episode or two of, say, Justice League Unlimited or Batman: The Brave and the Bold with a lean toward the Amazon Warrior.

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines stars Rosario Dawson as Diana herself and Jeffrey Donovan as Steve Trevor. Rounding out the rest of the voice cast will be Marie Avgeropoulos (Silver Swan), Kimberly Brooks (Cheetah/Giganta), Michael Dorn (Ferdinand), Ray Chase (Lead Bandit), Mozhan Marno (Dr. Cyber), Adrienne Moore (Etta Candy), Cree Summer (Hippolyta), Courtenay Taylor (Dr. Poison), Nia Vardalos (Julia Kapatelis) and Constance Zimmer (Veronica Cale).

Harry Styles Has Reportedly Turned Down Prince Eric Role In The Little Mermaid

After a rather hectic day, Disney fans can go to sleep with the knowledge that teen-heartthrob Harry Styles will not be a part of The Little Mermaid.

Following a series of stories that claimed the former One Direction singer would be playing Ariel’s love interest, a new report from The Wrap suggests that Styles, though a fan of the project, has “respectfully declined” the role. And while Disney itself hasn’t exactly said anything about today’s whole fiasco, sources close to the film have divulged this information to the site.

What set off this rumor were a pair of tweets from two of the country’s biggest theater chains: AMC Theaters and Regal Cinemas. While both tweets have now been deleted, both of the companies’ Twitter pages inaccurately and mysteriously reported the “breaking news” earlier today.

But of course, this isn’t the first time the casting for the upcoming remake’s drawn controversy. The choice to have young Halle Bailey play Ariel, King Triton’s rebellious daughter, has caused quite a fuss online. Fortunately, fellow Disney stars like Donald Glover and Zendaya have come to Bailey’s defense, as she’s been forced to stand idly by as a #NotMyAriel campaign grown more and more popular online.

We still have quite a long time before any substantial footage populates online. But for now, Styles would’ve-been fellow cast members include Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, and Javier Bardem.

But now that the idea’s dead and gone, we’d like to get your thoughts. Do you think Styles would’ve been a good fit as Prince Eric? Is your heart broken now, or will you still see The Little Mermaid? Be sure to drop us a comment in the section down below.

Wesley Snipes Rumored To Be Playing Dracula In Blade Reboot

The announcement that a Blade reboot is on its way in Phase 5 came as a thrilling surprise when Kevin Feige dropped that bombshell last month. But, though MCU fans are excited to see Mahershala Ali as the Daywalker, old-school Blade followers are hoping that original actor Wesley Snipes will be brought back for the reboot in some form.

This new rumor should please those fans, then, as the Lords of the Long Box YouTube channel has claimed that insiders say Marvel plans to include Snipes in the film, with the star even being lined up for the part of Dracula. They believe the character will feature heavily in the plot as the movie will go “old-school” and draw from early Marvel horror comics like Tomb of Dracula, the series that introduced Blade into the MU in the 1970s.

It’s worth pointing out that We Got This Covered’s own sources have pointed to the immortal Count serving as the main villain of the Blade reboot, too, so there might be something to this. That said, we’ve also been informed that Marvel is looking for a white actor for the part. Likewise, our sources have said that the studio doesn’t want to involve Snipes due to his well-documented unprofessional attitude while making the original Blade trilogy, so it’s hard to see them giving him a meaty role like this.

That being said, Snipes does have a lot of love from the fandom, with his frequent social media posts about the character and the reboot stirring up hope that he’ll appear in the MCU. The actor has said that he’s had discussions with Marvel Studios in the past as well. Given his attachment to the role of Daywalker, however, would he be happy to play the villain this time around instead?

We’ve got a lot of time to theorize and speculate about the Blade reboot as it’s not due until 2022 at the earliest, but tell us, would you like to see Snipes as Dracula in the movie? Share your opinions in the comments section down below
