Avengers: Endgame saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes succeed in reversing Thanos’ semi-apocalyptic finger snap in Avengers: Infinity War, resurrecting the half of the universe’s population that he killed five years later. It was depicted as a clear-cut victory in the movie, but there are a huge amount of negative effects that could come about from bringing everyone back like this.
Here’s an obvious one: what the heck happened to those traveling in planes when they were dusted – or “blipped,” as Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s terminology has it? Did they poof back in the air and then drop to the ground like Wile E. Coyote? Well, apparently not, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. He’s confirmed that those folks were safely resuscitated thanks to Smart Hulk’s, er, smarts.
“If people were in an airplane when they were dusted, they didn’t return at 35,000 feet. They didn’t fall to their deaths because Smart Hulk is smart, and when he snapped… You can wish for whatever you want and you can wish for everyone to come back safely. Done.”
This is a fair explanation, though Feige’s assertion that you can wish for whatever you want with the Infinity Gauntlet isn’t exactly true, as Hulk himself found out in Endgame. The film reveals that he tried to use his Snap to bring Black Widow back to life, too, after she was killed on Vormir. However, this wasn’t possible for some reason, something the Russos have previously explained.
The aforementioned Far From Home touched on a few other “hey, what about…?” type issues like this as well, including mentioning that some were made homeless by the Blip and children in school have to take the whole academic year again since they never completed it the first time. It remains to be seen whether future movies and TV shows will further explore the ramifications of Avengers: Endgame and the Blip, but it seems like a good bet that they will.
