Warner Bros. Said To Be Shelving Superman In Favor Of Supergirl

DC fans have been wondering what’s going to happen with Superman on the big screen for a while now, as reports tell us that Henry Cavill may be hanging up his red cape and retiring as the Man of Steel. Now, a new rumor’s claiming that Warner Bros. knows about as much as we do when it comes to Supes’ future in the DCEU, as the studio may be planning to shelve the character for the moment to make way for Kal-El’s cousin Supergirl to join the franchise.

Forbes is reporting that WB has parked their plans for Superman for the time being as they’re more interested in pursuing bringing Supergirl to the big screen instead. Helen Slater previously played the Girl of Steel in 1984’s universally-panned movie, but nowadays, there’s a major call for female superhero films, so it makes sense that WB wants to capitalize on that as well as the increased fanbase that the character’s received from The CW’s version.

“Superman has been shelved for now, as a temporary measure to let Supergirl step into the limelight and carry the Kryptonian banner for a little while on the big screen, as the worlds of DC continue to evolve and solidify a path forward.”

Something tells us that Forbes could be onto something here. We’ve certainly heard a lot more about a Supergirl film recently than a Man of Steel 2Last fall, it was rumored that the project could be set in the 1970s and feature Brainiac as its main villain – this second point has even been reinforced by another report from last month. Then again, Henry Cavill’s team recently denied that there was any bad blood between the actor and the studio, so maybe he isn’t done as Supes just yet?

Regardless, if Supergirl starts flying soon, then perhaps it could land in cinemas in either 2021 or 2022. While we wait to learn more, though, tell us, who would you like to see play Kara Zor-El in the Worlds of DC? Have your say in the comments section down below.

Dune Reboot Adds Another Avengers: Endgame Star

Though Josh Brolin’s run as Thanos might well be coming to a close in a couple of months with Avengers: Endgame, the star has already been snatched up for another major space adventure, with Deadline reporting that the Oscar nominee has joined the all-star cast of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.

Legendary Entertainment has so far nabbed quite a few Marvel regulars for the upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel, having already enlisted Thor‘s Stellan Skarsgård and Dave Bautista of Guardians of the Galaxy fame. Starring as Paul Atreides, meanwhile, is Call Me by Your Name‘s Timothée Chalamet, who heads a cast that also features Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem.

Dune

So far, Brolin’s role has yet to be specified, but if it wasn’t clear before that Legendary was going all out with the cast of this feature, then we sure know it now. Clearly, the studio feels Villeneuve’s Dune has the potential to fare a lot better with filmgoers than David Lynch’s 1984 take on the source material, which proved a box office bomb at the time but has since developed a cult following. Interestingly, Villeneuve has previously gone on record calling his movie Star Wars for adults,” suggesting that the filmmaker won’t be afraid to make things a little challenging for viewers.

Though it’s unclear when exactly Dune will be making its way to theaters, the production is reportedly aiming to shoot in Budapest and Jordan from this spring onwards, and if Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 is anything to go by, then the sets for this production could well turn out to be pretty awe-inspiring. Watch this space for more on what’s already looking like a fascinating project.

Captain Marvel Star Brie Larson Reportedly Signs Huge 7-Movie Deal With Marvel Studios

Back in October, a report got some traction that Captain Marvel star Brie Larson had signed on to make seven movies with Marvel Studios, and while the actress herself was quick to deny the claim, it seems that Disney may have such a deal lined up for the Oscar-winner after all.

Citing THR as their source, ComicBookMovie.com reports that Larson has signed a seven-picture deal that will see her playing Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and five other films. The report adds that the actress is being paid $5 million for Carol’s solo movie alone – a figure that comfortably exceeds the amount earned by Chadwick Boseman for Black Panther ($2 million) and stands at ten times Robert Downey Jr.’s fee for Iron Man ($500,000).

From the sound of things, Marvel Studios has a lot of faith in Larson and the heroine she plays, and given the current buzz around Captain Marvel, their trust may not be misplaced. One box office projection from earlier this month, for instance, had the movie’s domestic opening weekend haul tracking at $160 million, beating out the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok over the same period. On top of that, Captain Marvel has so far performed well in pre-sales, has yielded a very positive response from its early screenings, and has already landed a place on the ‘Most Anticipated Films of 2019’ lists of various polls and publications.

We’ll find out if Carol’s MCU debut can live up to the hype when Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, 2019, before Larson joins her superhero peers in Avengers: Endgame on April 26th. After that, we’ll just have to wait and see what Marvel Studios has in mind for the franchise’s newest arrival.

Netflix records all of your Bandersnatch choices, GDPR request reveals

Netflix keeps a record all of your Bandersnatch choice data from its Black Mirror choose-your-own-adventure film, a technology policy researcher has discovered. The researcher, Michael Veale, obtained his viewing data after emailing Netflix to request it under GDPR’s right of access rules. Motherboard reports that Veale’s aim was to use the experiment to educate people about how to use the law to request their data, and to encourage companies to make it more readily available.

Although it’s unsurprising that Netflix knows which choices each user made during its interactive film, Veale used the experiment to highlight that the streaming service never asks for permission to store your choices. Netflix told the researcher that it stores the...
