Deadpool Creator Wants Ryan Reynolds To Return As Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds has become synonymous with Deadpool over the past few years, but before he finally got to don the Merc with a Mouth’s red and black suit, he wore a CGI one for 2011’s Green Lantern. Hopes were high for the Green Lantern Corps’ cinematic debut, but the end result was far from what it could’ve been.

Fast forward to now and the Green Lantern franchise is in limbo, but Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has got a left-field idea about how to save it: Get Reynolds back as Hal Jordan. No, really.

“I swear to you, I would love to see Ryan return as Green Lantern,” the comic book writer Tweeted. “I think it would receive positive reactions. The end credits to Deadpool 2 notwithstanding. Could be massive, just sayin.”

This idea sounds preposterous at first, but if you think about it for a second, Liefeld could actually be onto something here. Sure, Green Lantern is one of the worst superhero movies of the decade, but nowadays, Reynolds is a massive star and fans are desperate to see Hal Jordan and the Corps attempted again on the big screen and served right this time.

After all, Reynolds previously appeared in a failed first attempt to launch DP in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine and then tried again a few years later in 2016’s Deadpool and nailed it that time. So, why couldn’t he do the same thing twice with Green Lantern?

It’d be interesting to see happen, but WB likely aren’t going to consider making a sequel to a critical and commercial bomb any time soon. And Reynolds also doesn’t seem to rate his turn as the Emerald Knight very highly, given that DP 2 post-credits scene. In any case, rumors persist that Tom Cruise could be the DCEU’s Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern Corps movie, which was once pegged for a 2020 release. Though lately, it seems to be one of many DC films stuck in development hell and will likely remain that way for a while longer.

Fans Think Richard E. Grant’s Playing An Older Obi-Wan Kenobi In Star Wars: Episode IX

Richard E. Grant has so far been doing a pretty good job at keeping the details of his Star Wars: Episode IX character under wraps, but the fans have done a whole lot of speculating in the last year, with one recent rumor being that the actor is playing a familiar character from the franchise.

The notion stems from an interview in which Grant recalled how “the room went upside down” when J.J. Abrams told him the name of his character. Obviously this isn’t a lot to go on, but one fan on Reddit has ventured an interesting guess regardless. User Rylonian has shared a series of images demonstrating how with the appropriate costume and makeup, Grant ends up looking an awful lot like Alec Guinness’s take on Obi-Wan Kenobi. And while you could probably apply the same effects to a lot of actors and yield similar results, you can at least imagine Grant pulling this role off if the occasion called for it.

Of course, most of us are going to need a whole lot more to go on than this one Photoshop job to start taking the idea seriously, and the internet has already offered a fair few contradicting theories. In particular, many fans believe that Grant has been cast in the role of a villain, which is hardly the most out-there of suggestions given the actor’s track record. For a while, there was even talk that he might be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn of Star Wars Rebels fame until Grant himself flatly denied the rumor last year.

In any case, given the intense spoiler security measures that the star recently recalled, Grant is probably in no mood to spill the details, but all will be revealed when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.

Oscars 2019: all the nominations

There were few surprises during this year’s Oscar nominations ceremony, but at least one film made Oscars history.

Black Panther was nominated for Best Picture, making it the first superhero movie to ever earn a Best Picture nod. The Dark Knight not being nominated for Best Picture in 2009 is largely regarded as one of the ceremony’s biggest snubs, so it’s fitting that a decade later, a superhero movie finally got its due. The film also picked up nominations for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Costume Design.

Much like the Golden Globes, films like Vice, The Favourite, Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book also picked up their fair share of nominations. Both Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz earned nominations for Best Supporting Actress for...

UPS will expand its Amazon Key-like delivery service into 10 new cities

UPS is expanding its partnership with smart lock startup Latch with availability in 10 more cities. Similar to Amazon Key, the Latch service lets drivers make deliveries in apartment buildings for residents who aren’t home, but it stops short of letting them through your front door.

By the middle of the year, Latch will arrive in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, and Seattle. Latch is currently operating in New York and San Francisco.

Latch works by letting residents and building staff use its mobile app, a code, or a keycard to enter the building. Each of its locks has a built-in wide-angle camera to record any interactions from non-residents, and the footage can be viewed...
