New Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Easter Egg Shows How Obsessed Bruce Wayne Was

It’s coming up to three years since the release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and fans are still finding new details that they missed in previous viewings. Zack Snyder’s movie was lambasted upon its arrival in cinemas back in 2016, but since then it’s received a reprisal from a lot of comic book lovers who believe it to be vastly underrated, partly because there’s so much to discover in it.

Take this little detail, for example. DC Film Hub’s John Aaron Garza shared some screenshots of a moment from BVS on Twitter which reveal that Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne has been monitoring the activity of Superman much closer than we’d realized. As you can see in the gallery below, a map of Metropolis he’s viewing on a screen in the Batcave is marked with various ‘S’ emblems denoting where the Man of Steel has saved people.

Garza captioned his Tweet with the following:

I never knew Bruce had ALL heroic activity of Superman in Metropolis, even down to his symbol AND description of the deed. Zoddamn Zack, the details my man. Armed Robbery. School Fire. Attempted Robbery. Gas Explosion. Bus Accident. Building Collapse.

BvS explained in its opening scene that Bruce had become convinced that the Last Son of Krypton was not a force for good when it was revealed that he got caught in the devastation of Metropolis at the end of Man of Steel, blaming Supes as much as Zod for the enormous loss of life. Of course, in the end, Batman was able to see that he had more in common with Clark Kent than he realized (like their mother’s name, for instance) and they became firm allies.

In related news, Snyder recently treated fans to a never before seen shot of Affleck in the cape and cowl from the production of BvS, looking suitably brooding and dark. The filmmaker also recently reaffirmed his faith in his leading man, citing Affleck as the perfect Batman. Unfortunately for those who agree with him though, it looks like the actor won’t return to the role, with Matt Reeves’ The Batman probably set to introduce a new version of the Caped Crusader.

At least we can always keep on rewatching Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice to find out new things we didn’t spot before.

Carrie Fisher’s Brother Says He’s Thrilled By Leia’s Scenes In Star Wars: Episode IX

Star Wars: Episode IX remains a project shrouded in mystery, and that goes especially for the role of Leia Organa in this trilogy-closing work. But while the late Carrie Fisher’s brother Todd Fisher is prohibited from offering any details on how the upcoming release will use its old footage of Leia, he at least seems very happy with what director J.J. Abrams has planned.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Todd expressed his excitement about the send-off lined up for Carrie Fisher’s character:

“We’re not allowed to talk about the details of anything. But we’re thrilled at what’s been done.”

The inclusion of late actors has been a source of controversy for Lucasfilm in the past. While the return of Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story showed that digital technology is capable of doing wondrous things with old characters, many felt it was in poor taste to reanimate the late Peter Cushing in an act of CGI puppetry.

But while the ensuing backlash for Rogue One has seemingly convinced the studio to give such trickery a rest, Todd Fisher has offered his assurances that Leia’s scenes have been blended seamlessly into the action of Episode IX:

“There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday.”

For next year’s release, Abrams is in the difficult position of having to offer a fitting send-off to Leia using only footage that was previously shot from the sets of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and the passing of Fisher two year’s ago makes the emotional stakes for this project all the higher.

Nonetheless, Todd Fisher seems to think the movie does his sister justice, while Oscar Isaac also mentioned last month that the film deals with her absence “in a really beautiful way.” We’ll see what sort of finale Abrams has in mind when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.

After a twenty year hiatus, tomorrow will finally see the 95 year long copyrights of works released in 1923 expire. These 1923 films, books and songs will effectively be the first to enter the public domain in the US since 1998, and Duke University notes that it will include such classics as Charlie Chaplin’s The Pilgrim, Jacob’s Room by Viginia Woolf, and the song Charleston (based on the popular dance of the same name).
