Marvel Approached Anchorman Director For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

As one of the co-writers of Ant-Man, Vice director Adam McKay has already dipped a toe into the MCU, but earlier this year, it seems the filmmaker had the opportunity to go all the way as James Gunn’s replacement at the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

McKay has already had an unusual arc in his directorial career, making his name on popular comedies like Anchorman and Step Brothers before transitioning into more Academy-friendly pictures like The Big Short. What’s more, the Oscar-winner could’ve added another string to his bow when Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige approached him to work on the third Guardians movie, or even Inhumans, telling the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast the following:

“We’ve talked a little bit. Yeah. We were kicking around the idea of the Inhumans at one point. We’re always kind of talking. I think Feige is just the greatest and what they’re doing is amazing.”

After the widely rejected Inhumans TV show failed to make it past its first season, Marvel Studios might want to let those characters cool off for a while before they make a second attempt at bringing them to our screens.

As for Guardians 3, it’s nice to get a little insight on a project that’s been looking pretty stationary for much of the year. With his combination of awards clout and comedic chops, you can see why Marvel regarded McKay as an appealing candidate to take over from Gunn, though reports also allege that the studio has been eyeing the likes of Bumblebee helmsman Travis Knight, Top of the Lake‘s Jane Campion, and Mudbound director Dee Rees.

But whoever Marvel ends up settling on for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it’ll likely be a long wait before we get to see the results.

Avengers: Endgame Trailer Gets The How It Should Have Ended Treatment

Next year’s Avengers: Endgame looks set to cram an overwhelming number of characters into the grand finale of Marvel’s Phase 4, but as the new video from the How It Should Have Ended YouTube channel aptly demonstrates, the team could’ve been a lot bigger.

The animation offers a continuation of the final scene from the film’s first trailer, in which Scott Lang pulls up to the Avengers HQ. After Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff buzz Ant-Man in, a whole load of new characters start showing up on their doorstep.

Among the current Marvel Studios properties who join the gang are Blade, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, and Luke Cage, but it seems that Disney’s soon-to-be acquired Fox characters, including Deadpool and the X-Men, are also down for the cause. Perhaps the video’s funniest moment comes when the ‘Fantastic Three’ show up, minus the Human Torch in reference to Chris Evans now playing a different Marvel hero.

But these on-brand heroes are just the tip of the iceberg. The list of figures joining the fight against Thanos extends to the likes of Robocop, the Incredibles, Ethan Hunt from Misssion Impossible, the Star Wars Battle Droids, Donald Duck, and more. It’s strange to think that Disney owns, or will at least soon own, the vast majority of this parade of familiar figures. Two characters who remain under the care of Warner Bros., however, are Batman and Superman, who aren’t let in the HQ but are given the special mission of saving the team “a really big booth” for when the battle’s over.

The HISHE video ends with a last-minute jab at the inherent spoiler that is Spider-Man: Far From Home, as Steve responds to Black Widow’s “This is gonna work” line from the teaser with the claim that he knows their plan will work because Spidey’s alive again in his next film.

Indeed, with producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal both mentioning that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel takes place after the events of the Infinity War sequel, it’s clear that the Mad Titan’s snap will somehow be reversed. Nonetheless, the question remains of how exactly Steve and the gang will pull off this feat, and we’ll find out when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.

10 Awesome Easter Eggs That You Need To See In Aquaman

After a whole 13 months without a new DC movie, Aquaman has finally arrived to end the drought. Though reviews haven’t exactly been glowing, the film is booming in the overseas box office, where it’s been released prior to its US debut on December 21st. In tone, it’s much closer to Wonder Woman than say, Suicide Squad or Man of Steel and aims to tell a fun, epic adventure story for as wide an audience as possible.

But, of course, there are still a ton of special easter eggs and references in the film for fans to pick up on. The story of Aquaman is pulled from a few different comics, particularly those from The New 52, but there are a few nods to the character’s long and varied history in there as well. Interestingly, James Wan put a lot of himself in the movie, too, and his legion of fans who’ve followed his career from Saw to the Fast & Furious films will love the winks to his past works.

So, on that note, here are 10 must-see easter eggs that we noticed in Aquaman. We’ve kept things mostly spoiler-free, but if you want to go into the movie knowing nothing at all, then feel free to bookmark this page and come back later once you’ve seen it.

Sebastian Stan Says He Has Nothing To Do With Avengers: Endgame

Being an MCU cast member can be a confusing and disorienting experience consisting of fake scripts, last-minute info, and multiple movies being shot at the same time. So when Sebastian Stan said last month that he doesn’t even know if he’s in Avengers: Endgame, the claim wasn’t as farfetched as it might have initially sounded. What’s more, the Bucky Barnes actor is continuing to distance himself from next year’s release, asserting just recently that he didn’t have anything to do with the project.

The weekend after the long-awaited Endgame trailer finally dropped, Stan attended Brazil’s CCXP, where the star was asked if he knew the film’s official title before it was unveiled. The actor explained that not only did he not know the title, but that he’s not even involved in the movie:

“I didn’t know anything about Avengers 4 because I don’t have anything to do with it.”

The exchange can be heard from the 2:17 mark in a video posted to the Omeleteve YouTube channel, before Stan goes on to mention that he hasn’t shot any footage with Marvel since 2017.

Assuming Stan is being completely sincere here, this certainly doesn’t rule out the actor appearing in Endgame. For one thing, we know that there was much overlap between the productions of Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, with the stars not always knowing which scene was for which movie.

Better yet, despite Bucky’s death in his last film, it’s already been confirmed that the character will take the lead opposite Sam Wilson in their own TV series, so you can probably expect an explanation for how the two of them are alive and well again when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.

New Aladdin Video Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of Disney’s Remake

With the first trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin remake being a lot more teaser-y than many fans would’ve hoped for, next year’s release has felt shrouded in secrecy for a while, but thanks to Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue, the lid’s now been blown right off the pic, resulting in a great look at how the magical world of the cherished 1992 movie will appear in live-action form.

As well as giving us our first glimpse of Will Smith’s Genie – which has split fans right down the middle – the photos shared by EW also gave us a look at the new Abu, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Nasim Pedrad as her loyal handmaiden Dalia, and of course, Mena Massoud as Aladdin. But just in case all that wasn’t enough, we’ve now got a great new behind the scenes video to dive into.

Seen above, it features soundbites from the cast as we get to see a bit of what went down on set, with the footage really showing off Aladdin‘s magnificent production design, which is full of lavish detail everywhere you look, including all the incredible costumes on display. And though it’s not quite the same as getting a second proper trailer for the movie, this is still a great look at the remake regardless and should tide fans over until the next real preview arrives.

As you no doubt know, 2019 is shaping up to be a pretty huge year for fans of Disney, as the studio also has The Lion King waiting in the wings. Directed by Jon Favreau, it’s packed to the rafters with top-tier talent (Donald Glover! James Earl Jones! Beyoncé!), so we’re fascinated to see how things pan out for that one.

Aladdin, on the other hand, will be with us on May 24th, 2019, so there’s still ample time for Disney to reveal Will Smith’s Genie in his true colors, after EW’s photos failed to give us a look at him in his blue form.
