Captain Marvel Beats Avengers: Endgame As IMDb’s Most Anticipated Movie Of 2019

Marvel fans across the internet are currently losing sleep wondering what’s to come in next year’s Avengers: Endgame, but according to new analysis from IMDb, the Avengers: Infinity War sequel just loses out to Captain Marvel as the most anticipated movie of 2019.

Obviously ‘anticipation’ is a very subjective metric, but the site is reportedly basing their findings on an assortment of numerical data, including page views and the MOVIEmeter rankings from IMDb Pro, and it seems that moviegoers are feeling pretty pumped right now about seeing Carol Danvers make her MCU debut, pushing Endgame into second place.

At third place, meanwhile, is X-Men: Dark Phoenix which has endured a troubled journey and not always the best buzz but apparently has the curiosity of the public. At number four is Quentin Tarantino’s controversial drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman sits at five.

At six, Dark Phoenix star Jessica Chastain makes her second appearance on the list by way of It: Chapter Two, while Split sequel Glass is at seven and Warner Bros.’ standalone Joker movie is at eight. The list is then rounded out by the live-action Aladdin remake and the Hellboy reboot.

But to take things back to those top two, you could perhaps argue that the relative lack of official details on Endgame would make people less inclined to spend time on the film’s IMDb page, which only just recently got a trailer, poster, and official title. But regardless of how ‘accurate’ this anticipation ranking is, it’s clear that excitement levels are insanely high for Captain Marvel and we’ll find out if the film can live up to the hype when it hits theaters on March 8th, 2019. After that, Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26th.

Idris Elba’s Odds To Become Next James Bond Have Been Reduced

When it comes to pop culture icons who’ve endured for decades upon decades and have subsequently been recast several times over, James Bond is most definitely up there with guys like Superman and Batman. In fact, moviegoers often can’t wait for one actor to pass the torch before speculating on who’ll replace them.

So, with Daniel Craig set to headline at least one more film that’s yet to be given an official title, betting odds are already being placed on who’ll take up the mantle in what we can only refer to as “Bond 26” for the time being. In fact, the landscape has somewhat been altered due to recent events, so let’s discuss that right now.

Believe it or not, Idris Elba’s odds have been reduced from 8-1 to 4-1, and here’s why, according to a spokesman for the bookmakers who spoke to Express:

“Luther is one of the nation’s favourites and its return has seen Idris Elba appear almost everywhere over the last few weeks. He’ll be back on our screens soon and fans clearly can’t wait, as they’ve been backing him to be the next 007 this week too. It’s clear that there are a lot of people out there that think he could well be the perfect person to be the next James Bond, despite the fact that he has played it down in the past.”

Apparently, Elba’s return to Luther is expected to reignite the British public’s interest, even if he’s supposedly out of the running. As it happens, a fair amount of Americans also support the idea of him being the next 007, so anything is possible at this point.

When it comes to other top contenders, Tom Hiddleston currently sits at 6-4 and James Norton finds himself at 2-1. Henry Golding, meanwhile, lags behind at 20-1. Personally, I’m of the ilk favoring Henry Cavill, so my fingers remain crossed.

In my view, someone in their mid-30’s should be cast as James Bond because it’s become par for the course for actors to star in at least four consecutive films in the franchise, George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton excluded. As such, each installment will probably be a minimum of three years apart, so the studio will need someone able-bodied and to age gracefully with the series.

Based on that logic, Elba would be excluded unless he signs on for one or two movies. Hiddleston and Norton would certainly qualify, but I’m admittedly not as hot on the idea of them taking over for some intangible reason. To me, at least, Cavill just appears to have that quintessential Bond look and the chops to go along with it, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Sources Say First Star Wars: Episode IX Footage Will Be Here By Christmas

Earlier this month, the rumor started making the rounds that the first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX will be dropping by Christmas, and while Disney has yet to offer any official sign that this might be the case, the leakers are sticking to their story.

A new report from Star Wars News Net relays word from sources that we’ll be getting a preview for J.J. Abrams’ next film “anywhere up to Christmas Day.” The site stresses that the source is trusted and “knows what they are talking about,” but suggests that the footage may not be a full-blown teaser but rather a behind-the-scenes featurette.

Regardless, fans will likely take what they can get at this early stage, with the team at Lucasfilm remaining predictably tight-lipped on the project and the studio reportedly intensifying their spoiler security measures for cast members.

With little in the way of official material, fans have been relying on hearsay and set photos to get a better idea of the adventure to come. Earlier this year, for example, we got quite a few images from the film’s production in Pinewood, showing the likes of Finn, Poe, and Chewie riding through a rural landscape while the Millennium Falcon resides in a forest. Meanwhile, over in Jordan, it looks like the crew has been filming some desert scenes, which apparently involve further screen time for Finn.

In any case, if this latest report has it right, then we’ll be getting a little more behind-the-scenes content of the official variety before the year is out, but either way, it’s still a long wait before Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
