Disney Now Pushing Avengers: Infinity War For 11 Oscars

Marvel Studios and Disney are very serious about Black Panther‘s Oscar prospects, make no mistake about it. A comprehensive and long-lasting campaign to convince the Academy that it deserves recognition is already underway, and though the awards ceremony rarely honors ‘genre’ pictures, the Mouse House is certainly hoping to change that.

But what about Avengers: Infinity War? Well, at first, it didn’t seem like Disney cared to showcase Joe and Anthony Russo’s event movie to end all event movies to the Academy. In fact, they initially only put it up for one Oscar nomination: Best Visual Effects. T’Challa’s solo outing, meanwhile, is hoping to score nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and 14 others.

But things have now changed. We’re not sure what, but in addition to Best Visual Effects, the studio’s also decided to give Infinity War a push in the following 10 categories:

• Best Adapted Screenplay
• Best Film Editing
• Best Cinematography
• Best Production Design
• Best Costume Design
• Best Makeup & Hairstyling
• Best Sound Mixing
• Best Sound Editing

Though Infinity War was a fantastic movie, and a juggernaut at the box office, the cultural significance of Black Panther can’t be denied and you may even argue that it’s a better piece of work overall than what the Russo bothers offered. That being said, it’s still nice to see Disney giving the third Avengers film some more love as well and with any luck, it might just walk away with a few nods.

Even if it doesn’t, though, no one can deny what a stunning achievement it was, and the best part is that it’s not over yet, as its currently untitled sequel is on course to hit theaters in May. And if it’s even half as good as Avengers: Infinity War, we’re in for quite a ride.

Harrison Ford On Chris Pratt As Indiana Jones: “I Think It’s Him Or Me”

For years now, fans have been theorizing that Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World star Chris Pratt could take over as Indiana Jones if Lucasfilm were ever going to reboot the beloved franchise. Director Steven Spielberg has always maintained that he would never recast Harrison Ford as Indy, but that hasn’t stopped people from entertaining the idea.

Ford himself is the latest to be questioned about the prospect of being replaced by Pratt, and he’s given a curious answer. While speaking with Variety, the topic of the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 naturally arose. The interviewer couldn’t resist dropping the Pratt question in there just as Ford was walking away. The legendary actor then gave the curt reply: “I think it’s him or me.”

What with Ford’s notorious dry delivery, it’s hard to work out the intention behind the words here. The actor could be saying that he can’t see anyone else other than he or Pratt playing the character. So if Indy had to be recast, he endorses the MCU star. Alternatively, he could be saying that Pratt would be taking his place if he was cast, so he wouldn’t know anything about it, effectively washing his hands of the question.

While we ponder that one, Ford also touched on the status of Indy 5, saying that they have a script “into production” that he and the team are very excited about. He’s referring to Solo: A Star Wars Story scribe Jonathan Kasdan’s screenplay, which will be the first not to have any active input from creator George Lucas.

After being hit with a major delay, Indiana Jones 5 is now due to arrive in cinemas on July 9th, 2021. It’s thought that it’ll be Harrison Ford’s final turn donning the hat, much like Star Wars: The Force Awakens was for him as Han Solo. But will he be passing the whip onto Chris Pratt after that? Time will tell.

While the internet has a staggering number of theories on how Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could defeat Thanos in next year’s Avengers 4, one character who tends to play a supporting role at best in this speculation is Captain Marvel. And yet, as the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War heavily implies, Carol Danvers looks like she could be central to the whole operation.

This notion is reinforced by a description for the Captain Marvel movie found in the Marvel section of Disney’s Japanese website. As well as offering confirmation that the Brie Larson-led film will be set in 1995, this text has also earned the curiosity of fans for its tease of what’s to follow in the Infinity War sequel, with one Google-translated excerpt reading as follows:

“The beginning of the hero holding the key to the ‘Avengers’ is now revealed.”

We’ve already been told that Carol will play a crucial role in the MCU’s Phase 4, but it’s looking more and more likely that she’ll also be integral to the action of Avengers 4. This raises the question of how exactly the Russo Brothers plan to integrate this new hero into the pre-established conflict between Thanos and the old heroes.

After all, this upcoming film already looks to be filled to bursting point with characters and plotlines, and while it will no doubt be a responsibility of the movie to point the way towards the franchise’s future, fans are also hoping to see a few Phase 1 characters get the epic send-offs they deserve.

Sebastian Stan Reveals How He Learned Of Bucky’s Avengers: Infinity War Death

Bucky Barnes is the first character we see perish in the climactic ‘Snappening’ of Avengers: Infinity War, but going by Sebastian Stan’s recent statements on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actor was among the last on set to know about it.

When Kimmel asked the star how he found out that he was among the heroes to turn to dust at the end of Anthony and Joe Russo’s last film, Stan recalled a confusing experience on the day of filming.

“Well, I really didn’t. It was actually my stunt man James Young who told me on set that day. He was like, ‘Alright mate, well we’re gonna have this mat and then you’re gonna fall.’ And then I was, ‘Fall where?’ And then he was like, ‘You know, you’re falling – ‘cause the thing. It’s the air.’ He never, like, completed his sentences.”

Still uncertain about what was in store for his character, Stan decided to ask the Russo Brothers, and if you’ve been paying attention to this filmmaking pair’s social media activity lately, you’ll know that straightforward, unambiguous answers aren’t really their thing.

“So I went up to Anthony and I said, ‘Anthony, what’s happening?’ He said, ‘Talk to Joe.’ So I went up to Joe and I said, ‘Hey Joe, What’s going on?’ He goes, ‘Did you talk to Anthony?’”

Eventually, Stan somehow managed to get a clear picture of Bucky’s fate, and the result was the first death in arguably the most talked-about sequence of any film this year. The Russo Brothers have previously mentioned that they intended for this to be an especially tragic moment by having Steve Rogers present to see it.

“In terms of our choices about who Thanos would end up eradicating with his snap, you know it was very story focused. How do we pay off each individual character’s storyline most profoundly? The first person to go is Bucky Barnes, and it’s shot from Captain America’s perspective. You know we’re watching Cap go through the experience of watching him go away.”

While things didn’t end too well for the Winter Solider at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, the recent announcement that he and Falcon have their own TV show in the works makes it clear that Stan’s run as Bucky is far from over. In fact, there’s even been some speculation that the character will be the next to assume the title of Captain America, though the actor was quick to downplay such an idea during his Kimmel appearance.

In any case, it looks like we’ll probably be seeing Bucky once more when Avengers 4 comes out on May 3rd, 2019, at which point, he just might be the one to watch Steve go.

T-Mobile Mini streaming box leaks in FCC filings

News of T-Mobile’s rumored internet TV service has been circulating since 2017, and a new FCC filing of its set-top box finally hints at an imminent launch. Spotted by Variety, the filing contains a user manual PDF which calls the device the “T-Mobile Mini,” and features some photos of the streaming box. The filing was made by Kaonmedia, the company that built set-top boxes for Layer3 TV, a small cable company that was acquired by T-Mobile earlier this year.

The back of the device shows HDMI in and out ports to allow connection for additional devices like streaming boxes and game consoles. There’s also an Ethernet port and a USB port for software upgrades, but no coaxial port, suggesting that it’ll be an internet-only box. The device...

Facebook quietly launches a TikTok competitor app called Lasso

Facebook has quietly released an app called Lasso that lets users create fun, short videos designed to compete with TikTok, the viral 15-second video app that recently merged with Musical.ly. Lasso is Facebook’s latest bid to win over teens, which the large social media platform has lost its hold over. In 2018, only half of teens say they still use Facebook, compared to in 2014, when 71 percent of them said they did. The app was first reported as in development in late October.
