‘Avengers: Endgame’ director explains why Iron Man died and not Captain America
In the run-up to Avengers: Endgame‘s 2019 release, many MCU fans assumed that either or both of Tony Stark/Iron Man and Steve Rogers/Captain America wouldn’t be there to see the credits. Both Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans had previously indicated that this was their MCU swansong, and what better high to go out on than this jaw-dropping finale?
Those predictions were fairly accurate, with the apocalyptic final battle concluding with Tony Stark choosing to make the ultimate sacrifice. This left Cap with a touching coda, traveling back in time to grow old alongside the love of his life Peggy Carter. But why did it go down this way?

Robert Rodriguez directing ‘Spy Kids’ reboot for Netflix
The four Spy Kids movies are seriously underrated, being not just great children’s movies but also experimenting with VFX technology, and featuring a surprisingly star-studded cast (with Danny Trejo’s Machete along for the ride).
So it’s worth celebrating that Spy Kids is officially coming back. Deadline confirms that Netflix has closed the strongly rumored deal with Skydance and Robert Rodriguez for a “reimagining” of the franchise. The last entry was 2011’s Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, which is probably the low point of the movie series. Things improved with Netflix’s animated show Spy Kids: Mission Critical, which consisted of two seasons, both in 2018.

‘Bridgerton’ star reveals role in Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ remake
Netflix’s fictional period romance drama Bridgerton took the world by storm when it debuted in 2020, and season two has followed in similar footsteps, with Simone Ashley taking on the lead role for the latest storyline. As the British actress gains new heights of fame for her role, she is also confirmed to star in another love story: Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
As reported by The Disinsider, Ashley will star in a currently unknown role. With reports that the film would feature Ariel’s six sisters, and with the studio aiming to cast women of color, perhaps the actress might have snagged one of the roles.

‘Dune’ production designer reveals ‘Part One’ originally ended later in the story
Dune walked away with six Oscars at the 94th Academy Awards, winning for cinematography, editing, score, visual effects, production design, and sound. This puts a capstone on the ambitious science-fiction epic’s success, following it picking up rave reviews and a very healthy box office.
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures quickly greenlit Dune: Part Two, which will conclude the story of Frank Herbert’s classic science-fiction novel and show Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides truly becoming the Muad’Dib.

Ray Fisher wants Warner Bros. to apologize after ‘Justice League’ Oscar win
Nobody expected Zack Snyder to walk away with two Oscars at the 94th Academy Awards, but it happened. Though he wasn’t nominated in the traditional categories Army of the Dead triumphed in the inaugural “Fan Favorite” category and Zack Snyder’s Justice League picked up the “Oscars Cheer” award for the Flash entering the Speed Force.
This raised some eyebrows as the two awards were widely considered a sop to those still upset that Spider-Man: No Way Home didn’t pick up a Best Picture nomination, though it seems the MCU fanbase simply didn’t turn up to vote and the Snyder fans did.

Simu Liu won’t sign “offensive” ‘Master of Kung Fu’ comics at upcoming convention appearance
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrived under something of a cloud last year. Industry insiders were predicting a disappointing box office, social media was full of naysayers, and there was an awkwardness about the stereotype of an Asian hero being a martial arts guy. Then people actually saw the movie and everyone realized it was brilliant.
Simu Liu and Awkwafina had incredible on-screen chemistry, with Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh bringing heavyweight performances. Shang-Chi ended up a big hit, a sequel was soon confirmed, and almost everyone agreed that Marvel neatly side-stepped lazy stereotypes. But that doesn’t mean the issue has gone away for good.

A mind-blowing action classic levels up on streaming
Christopher Nolan first established himself as one of the fastest-rising directorial talents in the business by crafting a trio of acclaimed and atmospheric thrillers, before diving headfirst into the blockbuster business when he signed on to helm Batman Begins. While that put his foot in the mainstream door, Inception was the movie that served as the calling card which would define his career for the next decade.
Armed with a huge budget and an original concept, Nolan crafted a globetrotting action thriller that was unlike anything audiences had ever seen before, utilizing the clout he’d attained from The Dark Knight‘s billion-dollar success to enjoy a level of filmmaking freedom and creative control that very few filmmakers are afforded when hundreds of millions of dollars in studio funds are at stake.

‘Morbius’ still tracking for a potential $50 million opening weekend
As the most popular, well-known, and bankable brand in modern cinema, it isn’t a coincidence that five of the nine highest-grossing Hollywood blockbusters to release last year came bearing the Marvel logo, which could be the one thing that saves Morbius from disaster.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Black Widow came bearing a combination of either built-in name value, strong reviews, or fan anticipation, and sometimes all three. However, Jared Leto’s Living Vampire arguably doesn’t have any of that to lean on.

Not every Netflix original movie enjoys the benefit of finding an audience from the second it first arrives on the platform, with plenty of in-house exclusives taking their sweet time to gain much notable traction among subscribers.

‘Morbius’ director says the identity of Sony universe’s Spider-Man will be revealed soon
The continued character-sharing agreement between Marvel Studios and Sony over the iconic web-slinging superhero made it an inevitability that Spider-Man would end up jumping between the two franchises, but No Way Home cast some doubt over which Peter Parker would exist where.
There’s been a groundswell of support behind Andrew Garfield being established as the friendly neighborhood web-head of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, especially when the post-credits scene of Tom Holland’s third solo adventure kicked Tom Hardy’s Venom out of the canonical Marvel Cinematic Universe in record time.

‘Blackhawk’ writer says Steven Spielberg’s DC movie is still happening
Steven Spielberg had always been vocal when it came to expressing his desire to helm a musical, with the critical acclaim that greeted West Side Story both vindicating his decision to do so, and proving that the legendary filmmaker is capable of delivering greatness in almost every genre.
However, one form of cinema that the bearded icon hasn’t tackled as of yet is the blockbuster comic book adaptation, but it’s not exactly from a lack of trying. Spielberg was first announced to be developing DC’s Blackhawk for the big screen so long ago that Dan Aykroyd was attached to play the lead role, before the project was shelved in favor of a little movie called Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Daniel Radcliffe says he’s lucky to have made it out of ‘Harry Potter’ ‘fairly alright’
Actor Daniel Radcliffe believes that he’s lucky to have made it out of Harry Potter “fairly alright” despite first appearing in the films at a very young age. Radcliffe famously portrayed the vibrant young wizard and titular character in the Warner Bros. franchise that was adapted from the successful novels by author J.K. Rowling.
While speaking with USA Today, The Lost City star was asked whether he could be persuaded to return for another Harry Potter film after taking part in the Harry Potter reunion on HBO Max last year. The 32-year-old actor mentioned that while he has done well for himself, he was surprised that he was able to escape the overwhelming success at such a young age — and fears that it would reflect on his kids’ lives if he were to do another Harry Potter movie.

However, long-time Star Wars fans will know that there have already been many Rogue Squadron stories, beginning with the well-regarded 1996 novel X-Wing: Rogue Squadron by Michael Stackpole.

Daniel Radcliffe admits he used to be embarrassed by ‘Harry Potter’
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has admitted that his tenure as the titular character in Warner Bros. Pictures’ film franchise used to embarrass him. Radcliffe famously first portrayed the wizarding youngster in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone when he was only 11 years old. The popular fantasy franchise — based on J.K. Rowling’s novel series — launched the career of Radcliffe, leading to bigger feature film roles in The Woman in Black, Now You See Me 2, and the recently announced Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
In the Harry Potter film series, Radcliffe’s character eerily spoke in parseltongue, battled the most vile wizards, and dressed the part as a young wizard who was unfamiliar about the power of his abilities. While speaking with TooFab in an interview with The Lost City co-star Sandra Bullock, Radcliffe opened up about the embarrassment he initially felt when he first dressed in Harry Potter’s traditional Hogwarts schoolboy attire.

Ice Cube says a ‘Friday’ prequel would be blasphemy
A recent internet rumor about a prequel to Friday on HBO Max has caught the attention of rapper and actor Ice Cube, but certainly not in a good way. The entire interaction occurred over on Twitter, where user @OhThatMarco sparked the debate with a single tweet. “A ‘Friday’ prequel is in the works for HBO max. Comedian druski and rapper Vince Staples are attached the lead roles,” was written in the tweet.

The Evil Dead franchise took a wobble after the excellent Ash vs. Evil Dead was canceled in 2018, with star Bruce Campbell promptly announcing he was retiring the role of Ash Williams. However, much like the cackling Deadites, you can’t keep a good horror franchise down. The year 2022 has been billed as the “Year of the Deadite,” with the obvious highlight being the release of Evil Dead Rise.
The film is due in HBO Max sometime this year, and though we don’t have an exact release date an official announcement and trailer may not be far away as the MPAA have just turned in their rating. According to a press release from FilmRatings.com Evil Dead Rise will be rated R, for “strong bloody horror violence and gore, and some language”.

Tony Hawk hilariously justifies why he’s presenting at the Oscars
The 94th Academy Awards will arrive this Sunday. With COVID-19 restrictions having lifted we should get a bit more glitz and glamor than previous years as a wide slate of movies battles it out for a coveted Oscar. One interesting wrinkle this Sunday is that the show is eschewing a single or duo presenter and going for an ensemble for the first time since 2011.
The list has raised some eyebrows, with actors Bill Murray, Elliot Page, and Jennifer Garner joined by the likes of DJ Khaled, professional surfer Kelly Slater, and snowboarder Shaun White. Rounding out the extreme sports trio is skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, who responded to complaints about his inclusion by pointing out his long and illustrious filmography:
