Paramount Launches $100 Million Lawsuit Over Mission: Impossible 7 Shutdowns
We’re closing in on nineteen months since Christopher McQuarrie first called action on Mission: Impossible 7, and the latest chapter in the globetrotting espionage franchise still hasn’t wrapped. Every major production has been affected heavily by the pandemic, but few have suffered more than Tom Cruise’s latest outing as Ethan Hunt.
The star and producer has outlined why he was so determined to continue shooting despite the constant setbacks, which have resulted in multiple shutdowns as the cast and crew touched down in Italy, the United Kingdom, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, the Middle East and then back to the UK, where the finishing touches are finally being applied.
By all accounts it’s been nightmarish to put it lightly, and now Paramount have filed a $100 million lawsuit against the insurance company involved in Mission: Impossible 7 for not covering the blockbuster’s COVID-19 costs. As per the filing, the film has been ground to a halt no less than seven times due to people protected by the policy in place either testing positive or contracting the virus, and the studio wants to be reimbursed to the fullest.
It’s a breach of contract suit aimed at Chubb subsidiary Federal Insurance Company, which Paramount claim the company refused to pay out when the full amount of insured losses under the policy were requested. So far, Federal have only covered $5 million, so there’s a massive disconnect between the two parties. As unfortunate as it sounds, a court battle would be perfectly in keeping with Mission: Impossible 7‘s rocky road to the big screen.

Dwayne Johnson And Jason Momoa Reportedly Looking For A Project Together
When you’re a recognizable star in Hollywood, it becomes a lot easier to get your own way. In the space of the last couple of weeks, we’ve watched Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista essentially will a buddy cop movie into existence based on a text message and a tweet.
Bautista put forward the idea of teaming up once more with his Dune and See co-star, posted on Twitter and let it go viral, and next thing you know Momoa’s being asked about it every time he’s seen in public, which has been good enough for the pair to guarantee that it’s going to happen.
However, we’re now hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Kingsley was returning as Trevor Slattery as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings long before it was confirmed – that Momoa and Dwayne Johnson could also end up collaborating on what you’d expect to be an action-packed effort looking at their respective filmographies.
It’s a little ironic when you consider Bautista isn’t shy when it comes to slating his ex-WWE compatriot, but Momoa did admit earlier this year that he was going to end up working with Johnson one of these days. The two have been friends for years, and they’re both now part of the DCEU, but the pieces haven’t quite fallen into place for a team-up.
While there’s no word on what the project could be, long-gestating biopic The King would make sense. Robert Zemeckis signed on to direct the story of Hawaii’s legendary ruler Kamehameha back in the summer of 2018, and it’s a role Johnson has been desperate to play for his entire career. He and Momoa both have strong ties to the islands, so on paper that would be the most logical option.

Shang-Chi Star Reveals He Got MCU Advice From Michael B. Jordan
The movie industry may be sprawling in nature, but it’s a lot smaller than you might think. You don’t have to work through the entire Six Degrees of Separation when it comes to connecting a pair of actors or filmmakers, and that’s become especially true of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the franchise continues to expand.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings comes to theaters on Friday, and while the martial arts comic book epic focuses on a brand new character with the majority of the ensemble cast making their debuts in Kevin Feige’s sandbox, only a couple of dots needed to be joined for one of the MCU’s newest additions to seek out one of his old colleagues for advice.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton’s last film was legal drama Just Mercy, which featured Michael B. Jordan. The star played a major role in 2018’s Black Panther, but he also headlined Creed II later that same year. In Steven Caple Jr.’s Rocky spinoff, Adonis faced off opposite Ivan Drago’s son Viktor, played by Florian Munteanu, who was cast as Razor Fist in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, so it really is a small world after all.
In a new interview, Munteanu admitted that it didn’t take him long to seek advice on boarding the world’s most successful franchise from his old onscreen adversary.
“Well, obviously we talked about it. He congratulated me once. I think he first knew from Destin. They also have a good relationship since they did Just Mercy. And then I think he knew even before me that I got the role. He congratulated me, but he never gives me instructions on how to do things. He always tells me the same: ‘Be you and then it will all work out’. And that’s what I did.”
Cretton also revealed that he was convinced to take the reins on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings by Black Panther‘s Ryan Coogler, who of course directed the first Creed with Jordan, so the boxing series ended up impacting the MCU’s latest effort in a pretty big way.
